Triple Forte
So no one wants to touch salaries, my impression is that they are over 10% of the million dollar operating budgets? Why so high? How much is a drill designer really worth in DCI and why? You ever get the feeling you’ve been swindled? I think you have to break it in two pieces. You have staff and you have designers/arrangers. Some are both (on staff and designers/arrangers). I believe most staff probably get very little compensation. Designers/arrangers....probably get a pretty good chunk of change. I heard a number of years ago that a very well known DCI drill designer/instructor was approached to work with a DCA corps once the DCI season was over. This particular person (designer/instructor) wanted $100.00 an hour to work with this DCA corps. soccerguy315
realize that things like this are likely not the most economical way for the corps to spend a summer: this was a map of the entire country with a corps traveling all over in a non-economical fashion. Jeff Ream
That's funny being as NFL teams are able to ajust their budgets if they don't make the playoffs without any issues. If anything, regional qualifiers will save corps money who are not yet ready to compete on DCI's highest levels. NFL teams also make a lot more money being in the playoffs than a DCi corps will make going to finals. Oh, and they are professionals...it's their job. When DCI kids start getting paid, we can discuss it

Back when jr drumcorps had a regional emphesis there were more corps and more kids marching. Then DCI started emphesising and marketing the top 6 wc corps nationally and we went from 400 + jr drumcorps to under 50. Or option # 2 , DCI could have a contest show for all of the corps who did not make the top 25. There are a of options to make the regional qualifier system work. It wouldn't work now, because there just ain't enough corps in some regions.

NFL teams, even ones at the bottom bring in millions more in revenue than a drum corps does.

I disagee. With almost 50 jr corps, each region would have about 10 corps per region. More corps would be added. Allow all corps to compete in same division no matter their size. If DCI would eliminate minimum # of show requirements for each corps, and if DCI would allow corps to compete with less than 30 kids, the # of jr corps would increase. Howdy
To make things even more exciting , the corps from the bracket of corps who did not make it to finals [the top 5 from each region] who wins that contest is also invited to compete as the 26th corps. xbones7480
Declare your love for Crossmen this Valentine's day and help them win $5,000. All you have to do is write a review; it's easy and free. The nonprofit that garners the most new reviews between February 1 and February 28, 2011, will receive a $5,000 gift from KIMBIA. Anyone who has firsthand experience with the Crossmen and is not a paid employee can write a review. Tell Guidestar how you feel about the Crossmen World Class Drum Corps. Click on the "Write Reviews" tab found on the web page link below. When asked, "Should this review be counted for a specific campaign?" make sure you chose "Contest" in the dropdown box. Contest ends February 28th. http://www2.guidestar.org/organizations/20-8573532/crossmen-productions.aspx?sms_ss=facebook&at_xt=4d4f6127fdb61adf%2C1 Edited February 7, 2011 by xbones7480
