Most Memorable Shows (Going back as far as you want)

Recommended Posts

Troopers 1979 prelims, Birmingham Alabama. The stuff legends are made of.

Absolutely. Although in a previous bout of hallucination, I said that it was in Boulder. I was quickly corrected. Anyway, the crowd was the most electric I've ever experienced for a prelims. And I've seen plenty of them.

If you were a Crossmen fan, though, your thoughts about this day were probably quite different.

Most memorable for me: (I'll list the last 20 years)

2011 - Crown - one of the most entertaining show ever

2010 - Blue Devils - new level of artistry in the drum corps idiom

2009 - Crown - one of the cleanest brass lines I've ever heard.... Crown reaches the top most echelon

2008 - Phantom - duh!

2007 - Cadets - partially for the wrong reasons, but regardless, one of the best performing corps, performing one of the most difficult shows ever

2006 - Blue Devils

2005 - Phantom

2004 - Blue Devils - such a hip show

2003 - Phantom - extreme emotion

2002 - Cavaliers - near perfection

2001 - Cadets

2000 - Cadets

1999 - Blue Devils - fabulous design

1998 - Cadets - very straightforward, in-your-face drum corps

1997 - Blue Devils - this show made me fall in love with the Blue Devils

1996 - Scouts - massive energy, part dos

1995 - Scouts - massive energy

1994 - Cadets

1993 - Star - (see BD 2010)

1992 - Cadets - loved the Holsinger

1991 - Star - along with PR08, probably my favorite all time show

1984-BD

Over Garfield?? Not that I MIND....but really?? This is a show that's gotten no love whatsoever from the org...never a mention or even a picture of the show in the 50th anniversary retrospective.

What made it stick out for you? Especially given the awesome shows that season?

OK, relax the rules a bit. The point was to see what people remembered most.

As it turns out, Greenblue's original hypothesis seems to be holding true. Often and throughout DCI history, the most memorable shows are often NOT the ones who win. Not always, but often. I suppose those of us (myself definitely included) who continue getting upset by the judges' scores would do well to keep this in mind.

Cadets and Spirit 1980

What was the piece that the Cadets played in 80 that sounds similar to Malaguena? I think it was Fernando's Fantasy. Correct? :worthy:

1980 was my favorite year. I play the 80 Finals DVD on a regular basis JUST FOR THE MUSIC. Don't even need to watch it.

Spirit of Atlanta (Let it be Me :worthy:)

Cavaliers (Sambandrea Swing :worthy:)

Crossmen (Pictures of Spain :worthy:)

Bridgemen (Big Noise from Winnetka :worthy:),

Madison (Malaguena :worthy: :worthy:)

North Star (Tiger of San Pedro :worthy:)

Also liked BD and SCV in 80.
