Though 1996 did have the best percussion intro of any of their shows, and 1998 the best in your face intro, IMHO.

I voted for '97 because it's the show that led to my meeting my wife (we met on a plane the day after she marched Finals with the '97 Crossmen)

My favorite show that didn't include my wife was '92, with '91 a close second, and '98 third

I'll rank my top 5.

1. 1992 - Because it is the proverbial poo

2. 1991- Metheny

3. 1990 - Baroque Samba and Now or Never

4. 2002 - Heat of the Day is just one smoking opener.

5. 1997 - I actually loathe Birdland and to be honest, I don't care for the middle tune. Niner-Two smoked and if you where in the Citrus Bowl like I was at Finals, that corps lit it up. More about the performance then the show.

HM 98 (good drumline), 93 (gets no love but I dig the Freda section)

I think a common thread among the posts about the Crossmen percussion BITD is Mark Thurston's writing. He wrote some great stuff, and found a way to incorporate some amazing grooves, without making it obvious, or seem cadence-like.

Mark Thurston + Crossmen = sweet beats and awesome drumlines!

AGREED!!! The 1992 show, and the percussion that were part of the book, is why I fell in love with the drum corps activity. Mark Thruston's writing is what drove me to want to be part of the Crossmen, but when I finally got the chance to audition (and made it), he was with Spirit. No complaints, I loved my time with Bones, but indirectly Thurston had a major impact on my music career (marching and now teaching).
