WoobieATL
... any REAL musician knows how much harder it is to play/sing at a piano dynamic than it is at a forte. He said most underrated show, not overrated. I don't know about any of you, but I totally disagree with both statements this chap has made......... Tsar Nikk
What do you consider the most under rated shows of all time. Shows that few people talk about but are the hidden gems in drum corps history.Three that come to mind immediately for me are: 74 Kingsmen, 78 BD and 84 Suncoast Sound BamRam 1988 Phantom Regiment
Tsar Nikk
... any REAL musician knows how much harder it is to play/sing at a piano dynamic than it is at a forte. <in snobby British accent> Really? That statement is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. I would like to consider myself a real musician. I find it much more difficult to play forte than piano. It all depends on what instrument you play. Most brass musicians should find it harder to play at a true "piano" or "pianissimo" level than at a good solid forte or fortissimo. Not being a woodwind player, I cannot speak for them...I would imagine it is far more difficult to play percussion at piano than at forte. However, if you are a brass player and you find it more difficult to play forte than to play piano, I have a book by Arnold Jacobs you should read. :P
LancerFi
When was the last time (myslef not included) anyone talked about 1983 27th Lancers.......extremely underrated. Hot, awesome, competent drumline. An inovative, forward thinking drill. Updated "modern" guard and flags that worked......yet....not even mentioned in hindsight.....they were scored way too low......~G~ I agree G, but I also expected by seasons end in 81, that we would place much higher....81 was also an underated corps and in my opinion, except for drill, the corps was a stronger corps. No people not playing in 81, it's great to recruit when you've placed 2nd the season before. Prior to that we had people actually just filling spots most years....a horrible state of affairs. But then again, there were soooo many corps to choose from... What about 81 SCV?
RichCranford82
When was the last time (myslef not included) anyone talked about 1983 27th Lancers.......extremely underrated. Updated "modern" guard and flags that worked......yet....not even mentioned in hindsight.....they were scored way too low......~G~ Good call on 83 27th, but if we're talking 83 I have to bring up Suncoast Sound. Excitement and intensity from beginning to end with a horn line that just wouldn't quit. Looking back on it I'd have to say that is one of my personal favorite shows to listen to. Opened with a wicked jazz number (Time Out), slowed things down a bit with a very cool version of Spanish Gypsy, a fun drum solo (named Casino I think), the best arrangement of Aquarius I'd ever heard (IMO better than 84 because they didn't get caught up with the whole "message" thing) and a beautiful rendition of "Greatest Love Of All". What a show! Not to sound too much like an "old-timer", but I really wish Corps would come out with shows like that again. It seems like every time I see a show these days, nobody ever just plays a song without it sounding like some sort of medley. Oh well, I guess some people call that "progress". All I can say is thank god for CD's. Rich
GMichael1230
Rich...83 Suncoast....Awesome !!! FIFTH in prelims, as you know after being 13th last year...a hornline and drill that just didnt quit....watchign the high camera is amazing...such a good drill nobody will get to see again, or for the first time.....but IMO, nnot underrated at all..they were the talk of the tour that year....and many years after.......not often overlooked in historical discussions either.... ~G~
davam
How about this -- 1997 Colts. Their Blood, Sweat and Tears show rocked, and they didn't make finals that year after four consecutive finals appearances.
