rkfdPRphan
Found this while reading the Internet: http://www.uni-watch.com/2012/05/29/more-news-about-roman-numerals-and-nicknames-on-jerseys/#more-29795 Look near the bottom of the blog. Good catch chaos! " … Also from Terry: New uniforms for the Phantom Regiment Drum & Bugle Corps (“which is not a marching band,” he adds)" Altho we know that Phantom's uniforms are not new this year, but updated from last year, it is still great that someone noticed something was different! AND that Terry noted at drum corps is NOT marching band!!!
general_tsos_chicken2
....no clue who you are, but thank you for joining DCP just to make your first post an anti-Phantom Regiment rant. LOVE IT! Not every corps starts PERFECT (but I am sure your's WILL). As many of us have noted, Phantom's sound will be different this year, we have a different brass team and lots of new members. How is that something new, different, insurmountable? How long have you followed drum corps? Marched? Student? Taught? Were you at our first dress rehersal in 2008? If you were, I'm sure you found even more problems with that show, and if you did, you were right - it 'failed'....... We all know JD is gone and the sound would be different, maybe much different, but this difference does NOT mean failure. What 'level', IYO, should a corps be at the beginning of the season? PERFECT or nothing? I heard lots and lots of very positive comments about both runthroughs on Sunday from people who know - past members and music instructors. THOSE are the people who's opinions I listen to and trust. Why all the work to discredit what these members are doing? ....by any chance were you one of the last few brass players who were 'released' by the corps?????? relax, everyone is going to have an opinion, we can't change that. Just wait and see what happens! let actions speak louder than words ;)
rkfdPRphan
....to those of you who attended Sunday's dress rehersal at Stillman Valley HS.... Did you see the guy with the black Vanguard corps jacket on in the stands???? He, and his entourage sat at a lower level for the first run through and then moved up to the level where I was sitting for the 2nd run through. Interesting! ...dress rehersal was open to whoever wanted to take the time to come out to watch it....

I've gone to several other corps rehearsals, community performances etc... and enjoyed them. It's band, not the crips and bloods :)
Lincoln
The hornline just is not a PR hornline, you can tell JD is gone. The drumline, well you can tell that Rennick is gone. Ryan Bybee was the brass caption head last year and look at how they progressed. After all, if you didn't figure out JD was as removed as he was last year, you probably weren't following the activity closely. Yes, JD was good. I liked 2003, 2006 and 2011 if we are specifically speaking about arranging. If you are paying attention, I didn't mention a few years in-between. I wish the other brass caption players behind the scenes at PR would get more credit due to them. As for PR, I've been following them for 32 years now. I think the corps is going to do just fine and after all, RV has been at PR for a lot longer than most other directors they have had in their history and I think he has instigated a sense of continuity not seen for many years prior.
chaos001
Well, I was at Stillman Valley and I must say I was disappointed in PR. The hornline just is not a PR hornline, you can tell JD is gone. The drumline, well you can tell that Rennick is gone. I think they have a lot of work to do. I spoke to a staff member who said, we have a lot of young babes this year. The corps actually seemed nervous during the first performance. The second run through was clearly much better, but I expected the corps to be a higher level even for June. I wish PR the best for 2012. You're entitled to your opinions, but this statement is not accurate. (and btw, it's with not to)
chaos001
I was at the dress rehearsal as well. I've been going for years. If you look at my review last year I expressed my disgust at the hornline, they are actually A LOT better this year than they were last year in the brass department at this time. Guard is looking great as well. I can't really comment on percussion. By the encore last year, the hornline was almost completely out of gas. I'm glad Carichner is back. That guard team is well...just fabulous. Percussion is definitely better this year.

If it weren't 200 degrees everywhere I am at all summer I would wear my SCV jacket to any corps rehearsal that was near me. I periodically get lucky and my work travel will send me near a show and I will play hookie in the afternoon and catch a rehearsal block from someone. And I would for sure go catch the show from a different vantage point if given the treat for multiple run throughs. Nothing to see here folks. ;)
