hostrauser
Crown's Mahler pre-show in 2010. Absolutely tasty. Too bad they couldn't keep that quality going the whole show.

Fran Haring
Haven't thought through all three decades yet... but off the top of my head: 2009 Carolina Crown. Best drum corps brass section I've ever heard. 1975 Madison Scouts, opening hit: What a sound, from a mile away on the back sideline. 1979-1980 Spirit: 'Nuff said! A sleeper pick... 1980 Bridgemen, the final push in "In The Stone." Huge sound.
Cadets98
2002 Cavaliers. The best ensemble sound in the history of drum corps. So much so, it doesn't sound like drum corps. Great hornline but the post said max volume. This hornline never played over mf. Luckily for them their show and visual package didn't really require them to play loud to be effective. Great hornline no doubt but definitely not loud as the op implied.

I get that their fortissimo was the EQUIVALENT of everyone elses MF. That said, the ensemble determines their FF, not the other ensembles. Their FF was the best max volume sound in the history of drum corps. No DOUBT that it sounded so good because they were playing softer than everyone else that way the characteristic sounds of the instruments could come thru. Very much like a brass band, in that aspect.
GeneralTsoChicken
I'd also like to repeat, the author said BEST max volume sound, not loudest.
