What year will Finals not be in Indy?

Recommended Posts

And from what I've heard, the cost of travel in the west is so much more expensive than a city such as Indianapolis. I'm sure fans would have to spend a lot more on hotels, flights, food, etc.

It's actually balanced out quite a bit. If you can't find cheap flights into LA you're just not trying. FIVE airports (LAX, SNA, ONT, BUR, LGB), dozens of airlines, and hundreds of flights every day. And hotels and food seem to be about level with most areas of the country, maybe a little bit more, but not much. People coming from Chicago, Boston, or the DC area certainly won't notice a difference. There are exceptions, of course. If you're staying in Hollywood, downtown LA, or on the beach, OF COURSE you're going to be paying more. But there are 68,237 bedroom communities in the LA basin (with more reasonable prices) to choose from. Gas is usually higher than the rest of the country (Only $3.63 right now in Poway, lowest it's been in months if not years), and it takes forever to get anywhere in a sprawling metroplex with traffic issues, but really that's the only "wallet-buster." Cost of living here is high primarily due to housing costs.

Oh so the stadium had to be broken in? Ahhhh. Just like those headphones and the 100 dollar speaker wires have to "burn in". M'kay. thumbup.gif

Hey, I'm 56 and I'm still being broken in.

I have VERY fond memories of going to Denver in 2004. Like Pasadena, I didn't want to sleep late after Finals so I could go out and explore the area.

But you must also remember that after 2007 is when the recession really hit everyone hard, so for a lot of people and families, making any sort of trip was simply not feasible during that time. As the recession got better and people were able to afford the trip again, we saw numbers rising. Another way to tell that drum corps is growing since the recession took hold is souvie sales. We are seeing record numbers in souvie revenue in the past couple years.

I KNEW IT! IT's BUSH's FAULT!

Sorry if you've said it before, but why are you so against it?

Aside from the actual "drum corps" aspect of the activity, I enjoyed going to different places to check out the local scenery. One week in Indy is all one needs to do that. If I were to do DCI (which is highly unlikely), I'd fly in Saturday and out Sunday.

I don't mind the concept of a permanent location (Indy) as long as you break it up every so often (every 3rd year somewhere else). Denver, Nashville, KC, Madison, Pittsburgh, San Diego, LA, etc....

Somewhere out west!! Pasadena was great I thought in 2007.

Agreed. The Rose Bowl would be great. I personally feel moving the Championships each year offers the fan base something more then just being stuck in Indianapolis year after year after year. A lot of these fans base their entire summer vacation around Championship week. After visiting Indy for several years in a row, the "excitement" of visiting this city just isn't there. Just my two cents worth.

The Rose Bowl is terrible. The passageways are so narrow it took nearly half an hour to get from outside the stadium structure (inside the gates) to my seat. It was like trying to crawl through a straw to get in there. Then there were the ancient light standards, buzzing away at what seemed like 120db for the whole friggin night. Then, of course, there's the whole "bowl" aspect; halfway up the stands in Pasadena and you're further from the field than in the top row at the Oil Drum.

People use flavored terms like "tradition" and "historic" to avoid hard realities, like "it was designed 100 years ago and is absolute garbage now." It's not just the Rose Bowl, it's true of Fenway and Wrigley Field, too. They're uncomfortable pits of ballparks that offer great history but little comfort for the fan.

I agree that I would love to see Champs on the west coast again. But for the love of all that is holy not the Rose Bowl.

When this thing is built. DCI should be all up on it for the future.

Is that still just a proposal or has it been approved to be built?

Which NFL team is going to be relocated there?

I know it WON'T be my Vikings as our new stadium was just approved and will be finished in just a couple of years!

Maybe DCI can have a championship in Minneapolis?

The approved stadium is to be built with a roof, but I am betting the venue will change and have a retractable roof.
