Jeff Ream
I'm assuming this relates to garfield's prognosticating post of a few weeks back? If the change leads to healthier corps (and more corps), bring it on. I just hope they know what they're doing. we'll just call him nostrildamus. Plus other people provided clues as to where one can see possible signs of what is to come
Jeff Ream
well, if it can be better off for all, then I support it. But we've lost a number of corps over the last decade that tried to hack it in div 1 / world class and [perhaps as a result] are no longer with us. it's not just about scores. Jeff Ream
So, would BDB compete against BD? Vanguard Cadets vs SCV? And what about the smaller Open Class corps? It seems like they would just get left further behind the pack. so you mean actually making money to go to shows, as opposed to getting little if anything now is a bad thing? audiodb
I am rarely in the position of defending audiodb ( ), but I think he was referring to this by his unfair comment:But in some years, they have done it with a lot of criticisms. Right. More specifically, what is "unfair" is that several corps who have met DCI's definition of a "full-touring" world-class corps have been mistakenly called out as "limited-tour" or "regional division I" by people who I guess weren't aware what the policy really was. In their 10-year term in WC, Mandarins have never done less than the DCI-defined full tour. I was not commenting on the fairness of the policy itself. Jerseyboy
If it leads to having 8 or more corps at each show it is good. some of these shows with 5 corps in it ?? not a value for the dollar. less shows these days. More corps at the shows . Hoping for bigger crowds. 44 total corps--I can think of ? Jeff Ream
If this were WGI where class was solely dictated by competitive success, I'd agree. But in DCI now-a-days class seems to be based almost solely on financial solvency. Obviously there are WC corps who haven't been really competitive in WC for several years, but they stay in WC because they are financially able to commit to the tour. Conversely, Blue Devils B and SCV C are much more competitive consistently than a few WC corps, but they stay in Open Class because of financial reasons. actually comeptitive success alone is not the reason for classification. skills shown is the buzzword
cixelsyd
65 total corps--I can think of ? WEST-16 corps Midwest- 12 corps EAST and South --16 corps That does not add up to 65.
Jerseyboy
That does not add up to 65. Forgot I first added the DCA corps into this. Fixed. Edited September 12, 2012 by Jerseyboy
garfield's_kid
Absolutely. I think OC should and could do it. But, as with anything, they need to make sure that they know how to manage their money. As long as they get that down, then absolutely, move to World Class. calileadsop
There is no doubt competitively they could do it. BUT, they should make sure they are financially sound. They have been smart the last few years to do their little tour in Washington/Oregon, take 2 weeks off competitively, and then go to championships. This obvioulsy shows they know how to handle what money they have, and probably won't move up to World unless they are certain that it is a smart move. At least what I think. You said it all, DrumManTX. I agree with you 100%. The Oregon Crusaders were most impressive from where I sat. Quite competitive as well, as we all know. Another corps I wish all the success in the world for 2013! Go for it!!
