I'm from the old school marching technique and this dot system is way beyond me (0.25, 0.125 dots? :blink:/> ) Yes, the whole field is split up into a grid one step by one step. For a lot of sets to work though, you can't just put everyone on whole steps, so you have to divide the grid down even farther into half, quarter, and eight steps. Half a step is 11.25 inches, quarter is 5.625, eighth is 2.8125 steps. Eighth isn't used much, but the corps members who use dot system have to know all of this info, because it comes up, and has to be used to make the drill look perfect.
