2000Cadet
so, he doesn't know how to hire the right person and the board is doing what about that? seems to me that would be a good time for the board chair or the head of the audit or finance committee to step in and make a good hire and give that person at least a dotted line reporting responsibility to the audit and/or finance committee? no? I guess every company in the country hires the right people. Unless you know exactly what is going on in the organization, it's not wise to sit in the shadows making assumptions.

exitmusic
Re: Revolving CFOs The problem is that he expects this person to want to work *as much* as he does, which is to say, way too ####### much. All of the office people are expected to help at band shows during the fall and be present for the absurd hours that are for some reason required to work for this (comparatively) tiny organization. Honestly, the CFO job is a part time position for someone who works as a fractional CFO for 2-3 clients, and the controller position is the same sort of thing. The issue is that if you want to work at YEA!, the executive director requires essentially that you (1) move to ####### Allentown (NOPE), and once you're there, (2) basically sell your soul to "the mission." YEA! would probably be better served by an objective outsider who isn't at all interested in "the mission," so he or she can make actual business judgments based on numbers and logic, rather than some other aesthetic.

Has this all been said by the director? Do we actually know that is the information he has put out for potential hires? Otherwise, you are just speculating. But if it HAS been said by GH, then I would agree that is completely unreasonable.
exitmusic
"This is not a finance job where you do the numbers and sit back. This is about making programs better. This is about growing what we have done here into what we cannot even imagine. Do you want to make a difference for kids? Do you have finance skills? Do you want to have a say in what happens today and for many years to come?"
MikeD
While Hugh had retired from Cadets staff by the time Dr. Joe Cinzio brought me to Garfield, Pete Dubinski (father of Star of Indiana snare tech) ...and Garfield snare drummer...
MikeD
Pete Dubinski and Hugh Mahon? Not sure if it is power of suggestion, but that does look like Hugh.
