C.Holland Posted August 30, 2016 Share Posted August 30, 2016 As I understand it from talking to oboists and research, the biggest issue about breath control is not about running out of air, but trying to get rid of it -- you have to control it very carefully so consequently you almost always have more than you need. one of the few instruments where professional players accept that they'll eventually have a seizure from it. bassoon is the other. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

KVG_DC Posted August 31, 2016 Share Posted August 31, 2016 I went from playing bassoon parts transposed on a tenor sax to actually picking up a bassoon and working at getting a tone that sounded something better than a cow in labor being beaten with barbed wire. it was hard work.
