Go back and read what I said about the Oscars. If the heady art film is going to win best picture every year, that is not going to inspire people to go to the movies.

Before you accuse others of not being able to read, look at yourself in the mirror. All we saw were hyperboles and absolutes, and we've come to an inevitable conclusion:

So since you agree with the outcome, Prosperie is infallible. It doesn't matter that his scores were outliers compared to the rest of the week or that a corps can go to a 9.65 to a 10.0 in achievement in a single night. Have you ever considered a judge could be wrong?

But then again you still haven't read the rest of the post, you just fixate on this

The Visual Analysis judge at Mesquite would like to have a word with you.

You want them to stop playing jazz? Are you nuts? That is literally their legacy and style of music they have always been associated with.

That's like asking Phantom to have a show with no classical music.

Sheesh!

did you ever see phantom in 2005?  all gershwin, who is an american jazz composer.

Go watch 90 BD then. Over and over and over 🙂

to be honest though 90 had a very jazzy arrangement of pinball wizard right in the middle of the show.

And yet people go to the movies, they just don’t go to see those movies. Pretty clear that’s what is happening in DCI, which is fine so long as you have corps that draw—and right now that seems to be Crown and Bluecoats.

I have honestly been unable to truly get into a Boston show since 2016. Even before 2016, there are very few Boston shows that I personally enjoy from the 2000s.

Everything from the ensemble sound of their hornline, the musical arrangements, their show designs, I just haven’t been a fan of it.

Theyre a fantastic corps and them getting a championship is just a matter of when, not if. I don’t go around exclaiming that I dislike Boston’s show designs and that they need to change their identity. Not sure why people do that with BD, is what I guess I’m getting at.

it's not so much that people want them to change their designs, it is that I think people feel that they get more credit then they deserve for doing the same or less than other corps and people just feel they are getting rewarded for all their past championships instead of being judged on the performance on the field.  I loved BD during the time most people complained about them.  Dada, the mirrors, ubsurdity, felini, and their storybook show in 2015.  I was all, stop hating they had the best product on the field and they performed the hell out of it.  but other years, I felt that their show wasn't quite as good as their past shows and yet they were still getting these incredibly high nnumbers.  Every corps has an off year , but it seems like the judges just never see it when BD doesn't quite have the show and they are still giving them high numbers even though it doesn't seem like they have the best show.  It isn't about specific moves, or park and bark, it is about the overall show just not feeling like it should be on top every year.  BD does what they do incredibly well and always has, but even back in the 80's and 90s the judges would see that they just didn't quite have it in some years and they would be beaten by others, it just seems now the judges aren't aware that the emporer is naked, and they are still praising him for his well tailored suits.

Listen pal. While I appreciate the fact that you know your cocktails and such (I work at very well-known cocktail bar in the US), it seems to me that you are trying to impose your opinion of Blue Devils on those who have a different opinion.

We get it. You don't like Blue Devils.

Fine.

No problem.

However, I think you are getting to the point of being overconfident of your opinion and thinking that the vast majority of drum corps land has the same opinion as you.

You are more than welcome to opine on why you think the judges got the past X DCI champions wrong, but the reality is that your opinion...is just your opinion. It's neither right or wrong.

With that being said, the opinions of others (including @Cappybara) are their own opinions and they are entitled to it. I happen to be a fan of Blue Devils (mostly by default, as my father is a FMM from the mid-80s), but I don't presume to think that everyone else SHOULD hold the same viewpoints on Blue Devils or anyone for that matter. In fact, I don't really care if people agree or disagree with  my viewpoints! Yes, I am snarky. Yes, I call it like I see it. Yes, I sometimes don't have a filter. But what I do almost obsessively is respect the opinions of others.

You seem to be obsessed with pointing out how the opinions of others are wrong. You seem like a well-adjusted, educated and decent human being. However in this case, and throughout the duration of this thread, you are making it clear about your disdain for the Blue Devils in a way that is not a good look.

So, continue on with your mantra if you want! I just wanted to take a few minutes and call you out on your disrespect to others for having an opinion different than yours.

Here's to a great Manhattan in your future! Prost!

Good points, but you seem to take this same approach with corps you don't like in other threads. Just sayin, pal.

Yep. Shake it up. I'm pretty sure they could play a non jazz show and it would be great. Why is that an unreasonable ask? Who else MUST play music from a specific genre EVERY YEAR?

He LITERALLY offered the scenario of Phantom as a corps who MUST play some classical music every year!
