And there aren’t enough Corps in some areas to make scheduling work because costs of running a Corps are so high. It is a viscous circle. And we lose Corps by drip, drip, drip. This is the way Drum Corps ends, not with a bang, but with a whimper ($0.02 to T.S. Eliot).

HockeyDad
We can’t go backwards. Those days are over. We can’t go forward. The model is unsustainable and many of us are running out of money. We have no realistic new ideas that would amount to anything. So - we’ll fix bayonets. We’re tired. They have to be tired. We’ll charge down the hill and your end will sweep to the right like a door. So…. FIX! BAYONETTS! ($1 to Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain)

Those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I anticipate more corps “taking a year off” to deal with finances as time marches on. We are lemmings and …. Hey is that a cliff I see ahead of us?

There are many ways to raise funding. It’s a matter of corps following up, trying to take advantage of opportunities, reaching out, learning how and then doing it. It is not easy. It takes time. But ffs you got to do the work! Look through these posts and there are several suggestions.

Look through these posts and there are several suggestions. I read through them. No offense intended but it’s all nickel and dime stuff. The biggest bang for the buck is in cost cutting. Few on this website have any stomach for that. So I’ll enjoy the ride while it lasts as every corps stubbornly sticks to today’s touring model. If something isn't done to curb this expense, either more corps will go SCV 2023, or tour fees would have to increase substantially. Yes, non-local membership has increased the cost of the activity dramatically. This just means that drastic measures need to be taken to remain viable. If you can only travel 3 hours from home, that's what you do. The bottom line is, we can't continue the current trend of ever-increasing expenses and hope the money is there to pay for it.
