Your corps bugles were not chrome.

You remember when drum corps didnt have contra basses.

My first soprano was a Getzen brass, valve/rotor

My son asks," what time is it ?"and I respond "its 1/4 ta eight". He says " Whats that?" Its another confirmation that Im old. These kids were raised in the digital world and clocks with hands are read by them digitally. The time was 7:45.

Memory...

Whenever anyone in the corps asked "Does anyone know what time it is"....

there would be a CHORUS of..."Does anyone really care"....

Did it this year with the band I teach (knowing it was a bad move even as I said it)....the kid who asked got insulted when I answered him with that phrase! :P

The most fun was watching the faces on the McDonalds employees! Oh, and trying to go thru the drive thru on foot!

We once pulled into a fast food joint (might have been a Genos)...and the manager came racing out, a lok of horror on his face...and waved us away! :)

On the way to Miami in either 70 or 71 we stopped at an 'all you can eat' fried chicken family-style restaurant in northern Florida...when we left they had to close up for the night, as we ate ALL the chicken they had! :P

great stuff and memories posted here, which caused a funny recollection........the wife and I were returning by car from a winter vacation trip to Montreal in the mid-sixties, when we stopped at an all night diner in upper New York state. While we were eating, two buses of drum corps kids pulled up. One waitress loudly exclaimed to the rest of the wait staff something like 'Oh my God, it's more of those drum corps people'.......whereupon three of them took off their aprons and walked out the door.

I would expect that there had been an indoor show somewhere along the route........
