Guest DrumCorpFan
I'm suprised that no one has mentioned the Cadets train wreck in the "z" pull in about 85 at Whitewater. Classic. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> To be historically accurate, it was 1984. We've been discussing it in another thread. The Great Whitewater Wipeout of 1984. Guest DrumCorpFan
Mike, I was there sitting around the 40 or 35 and I did notice the sound delay or phasing from one side to the other. Like you said, the crowd erupted when SCV started playing the first note of the Bottle Dance. We had heard rumors all summer that they were going to add it in for finals and was so excited that they did! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> What's the lesson here? Watch the drum major and don't freak out just because the crowd does.
bd5times
Yeah....the Madison thing happend in Concord. Not a good night for Madison. Well.....the "problem performance" that turned into, without a doubt, one of the most energetic performances was the "Night the Lights Went Out In Concord" show where the stadium lights went off during Blue Devils performance. They continued in complete darkness and the crowd reaction was off the charts. The corps performance level went through the roof. Simply amazing. The only thing you could see from the stands was periodic flashes of silver from some light (the moon?) hitting the horns. With respect to the 89 soloist, let's just say he wasnt the first BD soloist to have an exposed solo and gack like that. I've got home video of a BD show with an exposed solo (a very famous solo) that was hacked to death in front of a rival corps home crowd . Not saying the year or tune to protect the innocent (or...not innocent B) ). Edited May 1, 2005 by bd5times

Galen
I think not...the post is titled "Biggest messups in DCI history?" I don't see the word "show" anywhere in the topic. I think I hit a little close to home on this one. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> From the initial post: Now, we're all familiar with the debacle of a soprano solo in the Blue Devils' 1989 show. What other memorable messups, marching or visual, can you think of? Not a very encouraging topic, but interesting nontheless. And since I've never been cut from a corps, no, you haven't hit a nerve on this one. Edited May 1, 2005 by Galen
Galen
From my own experience in Pioneer: 2001 San Antonio show. Staff fails to inform us of the fact that there are 3 sets of hash marks on the field until we are actually marching ONTO the field. The message fails to make it back all the way through the hornline. This becomes a problem in the middle of our show, when we scatter into 2 different block formations that are supposed to march through each other. With some people not being fully aware of which hash marks to set up on, it was a minor miracle that we didn't march directly INTO each other that day (and as it was, one file was a good 4 steps lower than it should have been) I can also remember a show in '02 where a Southwind member had his snare fall off in the middle of the show. This was the show where they switched from traditional-carriage snares to hip-slung snares mid-show, and the drummer in question either had his strap break or didn't hook it up properly. He marched the rest of the show sans drum, as I recall. Edited May 1, 2005 by Galen
LancerFi
I wonder what their Visual GE scores were like! :P <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That happened to us in 79 and it was FABULOUS! Just the front lights though. Who knew how much easier it was to see a rifle with just the back lights. We practiced with no lights, so we could have gone on if all were off. I heard the flags looked unbelievable that night due to their color! I wish they didn't made us do a "do over". Had we had more shows with lights out on hot concrete or asphalt, etc. I believe we could have scored much higher every year. :P
