Biggest messups in DCI history?

Don't remember where it was, but I was at the Cavies' first show of the year in 1985. This was the first time the guard used the red balls in a contest. It was pretty windy and those balls were all over the field. Somebody around the 50 even made a leud comment about the situation that had the whole audience cracking up.

'Course, it always seems that if you're in the guard and drop equipment, THAT is when you get your one and only closeup on the broadcast...86 BD comes to mind...same for the backsticking flub before the long roll and turn backfield in the drum feature.

'90 Cavaliers, the very end of the show where the guard does the flag exchange over the collapsing horn-wedge. It's either the front or guard member on the left who drops the toss, pretty much spoiling the whole effect.

Of course, they got it right next year, so it was all good. B)

How about Madison 1976? During the begining of MacArthur Park the baritone soloist chokes causing I think a soprano duet to phase all over the place. The soprano section cracked all over the place during the full corps entrance but they held it together.

Now, we're all familiar with the debacle of a soprano solo in the Blue Devils' 1989 show. What other memorable messups, marching or visual, can you think of? Not a very encouraging topic, but interesting nontheless.

76 Commodores had a show where the drum major started our concert number without remembering to bring the horns up first.

The drumline came in on cue but the hornline waited for the belated horns up. :sshh:

Finally one of the staff members gives a cue from the stands at letter B.

Some of us saw it and came in, the rest followed suit.

We only missed the first 77 counts of music. :P

Hardly anybody noticed. B)

On the 94 vhs, they show the BD hornline warming up, talking up how great a horn line they are and how many times they have won high brass. As they travel around the arc, they get to the sops and you hear them fracking and missing high notes all over the place. I chuckle everytime I see that.

Cadets 91 soloist

Cadets 99 guard member, theres this part where they're alternating between rifle tosses and sabre tosses, and it was perfect until someone drops a sabre on the last one.

BD 90 - The gong thing was the first loud attack of the show.....could the same thing be said about Phantom '88? What was with that first attack?

Madison 2000 tenor drummer, drops his stick during the drum feature, right next to the camera.

Southwind 2000, really quite a shame that the final form was so far off. That was a HUGE mess-up, considering it probably ruined their best chance to this fate to get into finals.

BD 1998....an AMAZING hornline performance, my favorite in DCI history....capped off with a contra crapping through his (or her) bell on the penultimate note. There's three triplets to end the show, and the 2nd was garbage.
