"In evening's stillness..." is one of those pieces where you don't know how hard it is until you take a look at the score and try to conduct/perform it. After conducting this at the BOA National Concert Band Festival in 2004, I can tell you it would be almost impossible to march on the field.  The multi-meter thing is already hard enough, but the fact that the brass "chorale" in the ostinato comes in on off-beats (even though it sounds like its on downbeats) while the woodwinds are doing the 5/8 -6/8 - 5/8 - 7/8 shared monody...let me tell you, it was difficult enough doing it sitting down with a very good high school wind orchestra (and I've heard rough college performances of it too).  I have a feeling we won't be seeing this one tackled on a drum corps field anytime soon.

Symphony V would be a better choice, but it's all for naught because David won't allow any of his music to be edited or arranged.

Likewise with a lot of John Williams' stuff.

For my part, i would love to see/hear some of the following music on the field (and none of it has any copyright restrictions to the best of my knowledge):

Cantus in Memory of Benjamin Britten (Part)

Brazillian Impressions (Respighi)

A Full Enigma Variations show. (Elgar)

Florida Suite (Delius)

The Jungle Book (Koechlin)

Moby Dick (Mennin)

Pacific 231 (Honegger)

Romeo and Juliet (Prokofiev's version)

A full Requiem show (Mozart)

Chamber Symphony (Shostakovich)

Symphony No. 6 (Mahler)

Symphony No. 8 (Dvorak)

Always thought I was alone on the Mozart Requiem show LOL

Would love to hear 70 horns belting out Dies Irae

Obligatory plug for the music from Conan the Barbarian.  I'm astounded that, year after year, so many corps pass over this incredible music that is simply crying to be put on the field.  Amazing.  Even though I've seen the movie countless times, when I hear this music, I see drill moves in my head instead of scenes from the film.

Somewhere at home I have an arrangement I did of that...part of a show I titles "An Ode to Ahnold" Opened with a combo of "Riders of Taramis" and "Riddle of Steel" from Conan, the ballad was "Astoria Shool Theme" from Kindergarten Cop, and the closer was "Terminator Suite" from T1..."Love Scene" seguing into "Tunnel Chase"

A ##### to arrange, because Brad Fidel did EVERYTHING on a synth and there was no actual score...picking out the notes in "Tunnel Chase" gave me nightmares!

And in case no one mentioned it....PDQ Bach. 1712 Overture...

It really is great stuff. Would be perfect for the field. Like I said, though, sometimes I think that when it comes to music like this (or the Lord of the Rings movies or any other big-score film epic) a lot of corps today might shy away from it because they're afraid it'll be perceived as being "corny" or "bando" no matter how good the music really is.

See Dan?  I'm not alone.  ^OO^

alone? #### no! SCV from the late 90's till 2004 was my favorite stretch of shows by any corps ever. So many great pieces....Grohg in 98, the Barber symphony in 99, the Bartok pieces in 00, Trivandrum and the Organ Symphony in 02, Orawa in 03...mmmmm....they took so called "obscure" music and really made me a fan with it.

I dunno....I'm thinking more Mandarins (thinking of their 03 show) than Regiment. This would require a lot more playacting than I remember seeing from Phantom....but then again, I never thought I'd hear them play Gershwin, either!

Academy could do a good job of it...or Renegades.

Maybe I should dig it out, revamp it aq little, and shop it around....
