I've been listening to APDs from 2005 and some of my CDs & tapes from other seasons. How would you compare these 2 from a purely personal auditory enjoyment experience perspective? Please contemplate the total of all 7 shows in terms of variety, style, intrigue, excitement, subtlety, and any other aspects that cause you to experience personal listening pleasure.

'95 hands down - this year was a down year for DCI, IMO. Last year would have been a coinflip with '95.

Cadets 2005 vs Cavaliers 1995, I'll take Cadets 2005

Cavaliers 2005 vs Cadets 1995, toss up

Phantom 2005 vs Blue Devils 1995, I'll take Phantom 2005

Blue Devils 2005 vs Madison 1995, I'll take Madison 1995

Bluecoats 2005 vs Phantom 1995, I'll take Bluecoats 2005

With the top 5 it's 2005 (3) and 1995 (1) with one toss up.

2005 was a strong year for DCI. Much stronger than many think.

And in 6th you have Madison, 7th is Carolina Crown, 8th SCV, and 9th Boston. WOW! This was as strong of a top 9, 10, or even top 12 as I have seen in many years.

No brainer, '95. I also agree that last year would be a very very close second.

Comparing by corps:

Cadets 05 vs. 95: 95 by a whisker

Cavaliers 05 vs. 95: 95, by a long shot

Phantom 05 vs. 95: Another close one. 95 was the first Phantom show I really liked, but I think I'm going to go with '05, because the contra feature is better in that show.

BD 05 vs. 95: The simple fact that BD 95 does not contain the word "yowza" gives it the edge in my book.

Bluecoats 05 vs. 95: 05

Madison 05 vs. 95: Like you have to ask...

SCV 95 vs. Crown 05: A really good Crown show vs. "Not the Nutcracker". Hmm...

Total:

05: 3

95: 4

If we are judging on all aspects of the audio on the CD's, well then I'd say 2005. There were numerous occasions on the 1995 CD's where there is just too much crowd noise. The mics were picking up everything that year, including babies crying, conversations during shows, etc...

Although I'm no sound technician, the audio of the corps seemed off as well. Too much bass (or something along those lines). Maybe it's just my copy, but out of all the CD's I own, 1995 is probably one of the worst in sound quality.

Music wise, it's a close call. I think I'd go with 1995, but not by much. The Planets are one of my favorites, and I love listening to Phantom that year. And who can forget Malaga...

But if we expanded to top 12, I'd pick 2005.

Audio for 1995 was absolutely terrible! You are not alone. It's a shame too given the great music that was played that year.

Oh, yeah, can't forget the bang-up job they did on the CD's that year...great shows ruined by crappy audio!

Took until about 1998 to straighten it out....

Yeah, if we're going strictly off the sound quality of the audio tracks, I may need to change my vote. :P

95 Cavies vs. 05 Cadets - Cadets

95 Cadets vs. 05 Cavies - Cadets

95 BD vs. 05 Phantom - BD

95 Madison vs. 05 BD - Madison

95 Phantom vs. 05 Coats - Coats

95 Vanguard vs. 05 Madison - Madison

95 Bluecoats vs. 05 Crown - Crown

So it looks like it's 05 4, 95 3...
