Slow Adam
Hem hem...Actually, I said "In 2002, they dispensed with the music-box intro", meaning that they started off in flat-out face-ripping mode, rather than have the little build-up to it. My bad, Matt.
Jd83
Madison '75 - That "in your face" opening segment comes from the hornline playing on the BACK sideline.

Sideways
I have to say that both of my favorite openers are from 1996. Devs for the complete ripping faces off. Phantom for the slow and brooding build up to the impact.
Matt_S
SCV has always had some of my favorite openers. I think my favorites on that list would be 1995, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003. Other miscellaneous openers that rocked: Blue Knights 2003 Phantom Regiment 1996 Cadets 2005 Blue Devils 2004 Madison Scouts 1995, 2003 Cavaliers 2001, 2002
GMichael1230
As far as consistency goes and "bang for your buck" in tru drum corps fashion, believe it or not, the Colts have the best set of openers of any corps. Perfect setup/release, build of suspense, fanfare and "in your face" ....as a whole thay do openers(Off the lines) the best. My favorite opener/Off the line of all time, very hard to pick just one, but I have to give props to 1991 Blue Devils "Commencement" AN untouchable brass performance and a drill, performed flawless that highlighted the music, the sections playing the music and the concept of the music. With Guard doing just what was needed at just the right time. Visual erformance was flwaless as pieces literally "locked" together and moved om to something else. No brass was hotter..... ~G~
glory
Can't omit Cavies '90. The guard flashes red then the brass turn for the huge ovation! It's so regal and glorious. Here's one that people don't think of often: Crossmen '98 Third Wind. Let it rip! HH Edited November 9, 2005 by glory
Matt_S
You just reminded me that I totally forgot Crossmen 2002. That opener cooked!
dc oldtimer
Muchachos 1974and a close second Santa Clara 1985 Absolutely agree about Muchacho's. Picturas de Espana was just AWESOME!!!! But, Madison's Slaughter in 75 is a very close #2 in my book.
