BennyASU Posted November 21, 2005 Share Posted November 21, 2005 (edited) i think one of the biggest reasons i like SCV so much is because i have always thought they were the masters of the opener. Think back...big name classics like RCM, Phantom, Festive Overture, and The Canyon jump to mind. Trivandrum is often called the part of 2002 that most people really like (and my favorite mvmt), Orawa was my favorite part of 2003, and even though i wasnt a huge fan of '01 i still loved Short Ride. Then my favorite show of all time, 2000, the way Prayers of Kierkegaard starts the show off so haunting followed with the AWESOME transition into the angry Barber/Bartok stuff...it was genius. Too many good ones from Santa Clara... edit to add '04 and '05. I cant believe i forgot them! Their opener in '04 was unbelievable on all fronts (i especially love the last 30 seconds or so with the big impact where the mellos start bustin out some runs)...and the RCM/Shostakovich opener in '05 is what MADE the show for me, another fantastic transition from a beautiful opening into a powerful and angry piece.
