Bob Brady
Just caught the opening on NBC... The network captioned the .00037 seconds of the drumline as "The Cadets Drum And Bugle Corps". Unfortunately I had to leave for other commitments (D### family!) and missed the rest of the performance shown, but from the sound of things they did our activity proud. Way to go Garfield!! :)
LancerFi
Back in the early 60's my father marched in the Macy parade with the Hawthorne Caballeros in the pouring rain. Then ofcoarse there were the all-star Macy drum corps that consisted of about 400 each that marched. I was a member of the 1994 corps...it was great fun and we had members from every drum corps you can think of.....we even had a member from the NYFD Drum Corps in our groupTriple Forte along with about a dozen Lancer rifles - made up from the people that did the 94 show in Foxboro. kansasDC
Did anybody else catch the other drum corps members in the parade? During the performance by The Brooklyn Steppers, they mentioned that they were joined by members of The Cadets of New York City. If you watched closely, it was pretty obvious that many of the drummers in this group were drum corps-style or trained drummers.
LancerFi
They mentioned one band as the winner of the Division III BOA Championships. Is that the level of band many people might think could be in the top 18 to 21 or top 12 of DCI - all things being the same of course? (speaking about the other threads about bands that could/would be comparable to DCI corps) Thanks! fourouttheforty
If by DIII they meant AAA, then yes, that class is where most of the bands with monster programs compete (and my two cents, they could beat the bottom to mid tier of DI in DCI, but I digress.) I was at a friends house, being home from college, and I ask if I could cut the parade on so I could catch the Cadets. It made my day, but I feel like NBC just caught the end and it was just a lot of chords and loudness (which is alright), but wish they could broadcast a few more notes. Way to go Cadets! Question: What are the classic Cadets unis that people speak of? Are we talking about the unis with regular pants and no double-sided velcro coats? RegimentContra94
Did anybody really think the Cadets uniforms for this year were a permenant change? It seems so obvious to me that they were just for this years show! Of course the cadets were the best sounding group there. They should be. There were only two college bands there and the rest were all high school kids. Are we expecting a high school band to beat the Cadets? chris ncsu
ugh, i was on the road when they finally came on. i wanna see!!
usmpiano
I must be the only person that was disappointed in their performance. The Bb horns simply cannot match the sound QUALITY AND QUANTITY delivered by the 95 corps, and the arrangement seemed lacking. They sounded better than the other bands I heard, but that really isn't saying much. Multiple rhythmical ticks and a PLETHORA of hornline problems were very apparent. hornsarge
I know this is :OT: , but I have to say it!!!! Today, at Macy's on NBC, the Louisiana U mello line did a rip/run up to high C at the end of their piece and I'm pretty sure they ALL cracked it. God, I wish I had recorded that! *runs and hides.... OK, back to the regularly scheduled topic.
Guest mafields627
Ignoring the obvious mistakes, the sound quality on the parade is never great for ensemble sound. They just happen to catch whatever individuals happen to be front and center, which is usually the drumline and dancers or guard.
