Dave
Well, that's post-finals. And I imagine some of that might be attributable to the camera; the mics on those old SAM-sized video cameras weren't exactly designed to take in all the sound produced by a drum corps and reproduce it at high quality. Sexyguardcap
I love the respect each corps had for one another. That's the way it should be. Could someone who marched with Star and/or Cadets that night give some background please. Edited March 21, 2006 by Sexyguardcap
George
guys - the trumpets didn't sound like that live - I was on the field that night and remember it - that's them being too loud for the video recorder mic
tommytimp
A great show (except for the stupid symmetrical pit). Star and Garfield had two of the hardest shows ever that year, and both performed like the absolute nuts.

matye
TRUMPETS???? Please get it right....those were King K-20 SOPRANO BUGLES!!! G....not Bb!! Star never went three valve...the horns were only 9 years old when they left the field. Wonder what ever happened to the brass choir..... Would someone please pass the tissues??? Okay ... better now. Thanks Sam. You really do "get it". What happened to the bugles ??? That brass choir played some of the most amazing music over the years ... I'm thinking of Chorale ... "When You Wish" and for those who saw the Indy 500 Parade in 2004, ... "and now ... the Star of Indiana Alumni Corpse Band playing Henry VEE" ... woot ...and we love the music ... and the sound those bugles could produce ... yet the alumni were able to produce incredible music during their concert at the Star Alumni Bash after the parade using Bb instruments ... go figure ... Tony L.
Now that is why a full retreat (with each corps playing off) on Finals Night was so special and should be brought back. It really didn't take all that much longer than the retreats today.
Jared_mello
Agreed with almost all of the posts here. Conceptually awesome (and what an incredible and significant moment for drum corps, in retrospect), rough musically (surely a mix of lack of warming up/audio equipment/mic placement/it being AFTER FINALS and at least a little bit of edge and uncontrolled emotions are to be expected, especially considering the margin of defeat), great perspective (watching the color guard, seeing the Cadets of Bergen County applaud, SEEING THE TENORS HYPE)....very cool "behind the scenes"-ish video. Sure hope more stuff like that pops up on DCP more often; I love that aspect of drum corps. I watched the BD '99 finals morning runthrough video at least 10 times today with even being aware. :)
Jared_mello
guys - the trumpets didn't sound like that live - I was on the field that night and remember it - that's them being too loud for the video recorder mic Just wondering, George - were you on the field for that performance shown in the video, or on the field for the finals show? I'm jealous of either one, but I was just curious if you got a chance to see this standstill run from up close.
