idontwan2know
Just to clarify, vibe and marimba resonators are closed at the bottom and their length is such that the soundwaves going into them reflect back out of the top at increased amplitude. The surface the instrument sits on is only relevant in terms of the sound waves which emanate downard from the bars and do not enter the resonators...which I'm guessing is not a lot. I forget who, but there was a top level junior corps in 2004 who had mics at the bottom of the resonators...always found that amusing. There's no sound coming out there. JeromeyBush
I still say that if we're going to ruin the activity, let's do it all out. If amps are legal, I want the prohibition against live animals, fireworks and tatical nuclear weapons removed as well. ^0^ Uh,buttplugs? Windsor
Thank you Jim for the congratulations oh and btw one of Ryans favorites is 1978 Bridgemen.. :P (Yeah I've been playing DVD's already). And also for confirming that I haven't lost my mind about what the Bridgemen "of old" would've done with amps... :P :) All I am saying is that IF the rest of the field were using amps and our staff felt that we needed to use the same technology to keep a competitive edge, you can bet your sweet bippy that the Bridgemen would not only have used them, but found a way to push the envelope. However, since the subject of amps was not a raging issue, it would seem quite a waste of time to speculate on what would have happened 25 - 30 years ago on that subject. However, I DO remember the corps changing over to 2 valve bugles and fielding a pit, hot issues of the day, as well as sporting dancing bears, a chicken, a big top, girls dancing on tables, etc. sending many a disgruntled spectator running for the hotdog stand. As it stands now, I see no reason to debate our staff's decision to use amplification in our pit since this is the same HOF staff that lead us to glory back in the day. And I agree with George, you won't even notice the amps in the pit with all that is going on with the rest of this highly entertaining corps. Diceman
...BTW, we used amps in ES in 1985! Yep - and I have a video to prove it (the electric bass player)! (In the video, you can see #### Robilotto[sp] covering his ear with his clipboard every time he passes in front of the guy... Heh...) (How come Mr. Robilotto's first name is all ###s?) Jeff Ream
The funny part about that is that about the time most of those hits came out, I was in elementary school just discovering MTV. I remember the first time I horrified my mother singing the lyrics to Unskinny Bop because they dropped a curse word and me not knowing, sang the lyrics and about had my mouth smacked off. christ. i partied w/brett and Rikki, who is my 3rd cousin in the 80's. just wait til yer old. ^0^
Jeff Ream
I know this isn't Poison, but I've always wanted to be a part of a show that paid tribute to one of the most underappreciated bands of our generation: Ratt. I'm imagining hair, guard costumes and an in-your-face rendition of "Round and Round."Um. NOT. Lay It Down is so much better for the field
