As much as I would love to see Phantom make a run for first this week-- I'm not sure if they can top a Machine. 23 - Pioneer- What has the brass staff been doing this summer??? not teaching me thinks. :(

That's kinda rude, don't you think? They have the smallest...or second smallest brassline in Div I, and I've seen them a few times this summer. If you had seen them in June, you would definitely appreciate how they perform in August. They have improved so much this season. They usually have one of the toughest hills to climb each summer, and this year was no exception. Congrats, Pioneer! Regardless of placement, you've shown more improvement than most corps out there.

My predictions, with a little bit of hopeful wishing thrown in.

01 - Cavaliers

The class of 2006, IMO. It's the show that I can't wait three days to see again in the theater.

02 - Blue Devils

03 - Phantom Regiment

A lot of talk about Phantom vs. Cavaliers, probably because people are pulling for a Phantom win and Cavaliers are the front-runner. Probably also has something to do with the rivalry between these two midwest corps. Whatever the reason, I think people are forgetting about the Blue Devils, who are only behind the Cavaliers by the slimmest possible margin. I think either Cavaliers or Devils are going to come out with what it takes to pull ahead at finals, and while Phantom may catch the corps that's not on its game, I don't see them catching both.

04 - Bluecoats

05 - Cadets

Maybe some wistful thinking here, but as close as this race is, I think I'm allowed. Both corps have a knack for improving over finals week, I can't wait to see what happens.

06 - Santa Clara Vanguard

A solid choice, as they've seperated from the groups below them, but I don't see them catching the two ahead of them.

07 - Blue Knights

08 - Carolina Crown

More wistful thinking, but it makes sense. BK has only topped Crown once this year, but they've been moving closer ever since the spread was 2.40 in Wichita Falls. Closing the spread, without ever quite pulling ahead? Sounds like a recipe for a Finals week move, if you ask me.

09 - Boston Crusaders

Similar situation as with SCV, better than Scouts, not enough to catch Crown (or BK)

10 - Madison Scouts

Keep cleaning, but there's just not enough time.

11 - Glassmen

12 - Spirit

No movement here, these two groups haven't changed placement in weeks.

13 - Colts

14 - Crossmen

Trading places all year, but Colts have the cleaner and more consistant program. Now, let's hope they can bust into finals next year (of course, they just may do it this year)!

15 - Capital Regiment

16 - Blue Stars

Another opportunity to flip-flop, so I again went with the show I like better. Like the others before, neither outcome would surprise me

17 - Mandarins

18 - Magic

19 - Southwind

I wouldn't mind seeing Magic crack semifinals, I like their show even if they don't have it down. If nothing else, I love that they've been able to pull themselves up and get in the running!

20 - Pacific Crest

21 - Seattle Cascades

22 - Esperanza

23 - Pioneer

I feel reasonably confident about these placements, I just wish Esperanza were able to score a little better. My favorite little guys.

Sorry no surprises. SCV and Colts seem like they have the best chance of pulling a true August shocker.

Yes sorry it was rude to put it that bluntly.

But I just was really surprised Friday that the basics of brass playing, especially in the sopranos, were not very evident. I know the members are young and am sure they work hard. It just made me wonder.

So... according to this poll, The Cavaliers are going to win the Gold AND the Silver??? I dig it! I mean, they *are* pretty darn good!

Here are my predictions:

1. Cavaliers (a yup)

2. Phantom Regiment

3. Blue Devils (Super high score yesterday, but possibly losing steam by end of week)

4. Bluecoats (Brass and Percussion scores will keep them up....but don't let Costanza (sp) judge CG finals night)

5. Cadets (VERY close to BC)

6. SCV (great late season surge, but not the show to be top 5)

7. Crown (great...best 7th place EVER)

8. BK

9. Boston

10. Madison

11. Glassmen

12. Spirit

13. Colts (maybe .2 or less from finals)

14. Blue Stars (Less than 150 miles from home... will definitely have a good fan base in Madison)

15. Capital Reg (Still improving...)

16. Crossmen (aren't improving fast enough)

17. Mandarin (no way SW is gonna beat their fun show)
