You may have to be in shape to participate in drum corps, but I don't think it's a sport. Just because it's a competition and it's being shown on ESPN2 does not make it sport. Get real!

Show me an offensive lineman that can do 170 BPM's for 11 minutes and play an instument at the same time. I DON'T THINK SO !!!!!!!!

WE practice we compete we want to win. There are finals some things as sports. If cheerleading is a sport drum corps is then.

No offense to anyone who plays golf BUT...

Golf is a sport , Nascar is a sport (I don't understand this one), so why is it hard to believe that Drum Corps is a sport. There is so much physically going on, you have to be in shape (or get there).

So, then ... would the Fox network TV show "So You Think You Can Dance" be a sport? It's a competition, and it requires at least as much physically as drum corps. Heck, in the world of competitive ballroom dancing, they've already given it the annoying newspeak name "Dancesport."

IMO, drum & bugle corps is a performing art that happens to be judged. If corps is a sport, what about an international piano or violin competition?

I don't think golf or auto racing are sports, either, although both place physical demands on the participants.

It's not a sport until I get a multi-million dollar contract from the Renegades to march. ^0^

Yeah, and if it was a sport I wouldn't be doing it because I hate sports. And if it was a sport why is there Youth Education in the Arts?

dictionary.com says that a sport is

1. an athletic activity requiring skill or physical prowess and often of a competitive nature, as racing, baseball, tennis, golf, bowling, wrestling, boxing, hunting, fishing, etc.

and

1a. Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively.

So with those 2, i'd say drum corps is most definitely a sport.
