DCA-C Expansion

Recommended Posts

Okay, so with DCA-C now in existance, it would be very beneficial for the corps to have just two more show opportunities so that there's a better chance to become voting members. After all, if we can all make 4 sanctioned shows, then that opens up a huge opportunity if any of use make it into those top 14.

This year, the Govies and Brass set up an excellent model for DCA-C, which is make a weekend of two shows within a reasonable distance of each other. Just make a long weekend of it, and the corps get more for their travel dollars by getting in two performances. But, where would we be able to do this next year? And when?

Here's my suggestion: Indianapolis and St. Louis. They're two large cities 4 hours apart. You could find housing anywhere along that stretch of I-70. There's a possibility that the weekend could be set to piggyback off of DCI's big Indy show (say, do an afternoon DCA show followed by their evening show, or do a Friday night show... giving us plenty of time to get out of town and move on to St. Louis). Indy is far East enough to maybe attract one of the "Big Dogs" of the "DCA Old Guard".

What other pairs of cities would be good for this?

To be Honest Better to NOT be involved with a DCI- Indy.

Memphis and St. Louis,

Chalange Cup I & II

Llooks to be the Better combo. With those two you might also bring in DCA S also.

Think of the Corps line up possibilities:

DCA-S

Carolina Gold

CorpsVets

Music City

Gulf Coast

Generals

-----------------

DCA-C

Minnesota Brass

Kilts

Frontier

Govies

Chops

Prairie Sound?

How about throw in a North East door buster like Reading or Bush. (Two corps that have a lower age average that could travel more easily)

Sure might make me take a week end trip up the Mississippi.

Grand Haven, MI. Up until a couple years ago there was a Div II/III show at the Coast Guard Festival. Huge festival, fun parade and a town familiar with drum corps and hungry to get a show back. Not to mention miles and miles of some of the best beaches in the country!!!

How about Cleveland and Indy? East coast corps could travel west and central corps could travel east and north. It's about a 4.5 hour drive from Rachacha and about 5.5 from Syracuse, and Danville is about 5 hours!

Maybe even a home town show for the ROCK!

Like I said before Forget Indy that is DCI HQ and starting next year the DCI ( Brass Band Field Theater) Championships will be there for the next "10 YEARS"

As to Cleveland, why not make the other local Cincinnati? that combo would be in a state FULL of DCI groups and might help build a DCA presence in OHIO. "Battle For Ohio"

Cleveland first night then Cincin. 2nd. At the Cleveland show DCA -Cent. could bang heads with the Rochester, Syracuse Corps and maybe Music City. At the Cincin. show again Music City but add CorVets and Carolina Gold to replace New York corps.

Lot's of Possibilities that way too.

Specially if held in mid August after DCI, local groups are back home. Could add some real crowd potential. Wanting to see the other side of things.

What, you don't want an actual audiance for your show? Indy is a musical pagentry mecca, with some of the best band programs in country in the area, tons of various corps alumni, and a knowledgable fan base. You can easily get a decent crowd in Indy with minimal advertising. It would be idiotic to not aim your product at some of the people who are guaranteed to at least have an interest in it. Or you can just keep aiming at the same old folks and just continue to be a side show compared to Brass Band Theater.

Forget Cincinnati, all you will get here is "Hey, its one of those band shows!" or "Where are the Blue Devils?". The midwest is so primed for All-Age Corps. You cannot swing a dead cat without hitting an alum from Cavies, PR, Blue, Glass, Star. But you first have to make it accessible to the centers of interest, such as Chicago and Indy.
