drumcat
Let's not confuse a slide whistle with a siren whistle, please. http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&a...amp;btnG=Search http://images.google.com/images?svnum=10&a...amp;btnG=Search
pitcorps
I would have to assume that the slide whistle is fitted in the percussionits arsenal due to the fact that it is almost never assigned definite pitches. Yes, definite pitches are involved, but not specified in general slide whistle playing. If clear melody or harmony were played on a slide whistle and not just the "sound effect", dci would have to rethink their allowence of this silly instrument. badmatchespartdos
Just to be clear, the slide whistle is not innovation. I'm going to make some popcorn.

Orange Roughy
I'm witcha, Drumcat. All this talk about slide whistles, and yet what everyone is hearing (and discussing in this thread) is the siren whistle. To me, slide whistle = something you'd find in a Count Chocula box. Siren whistle = fun percussion instrument that the Bluecoats used to perfection this year.
Tom Brace
Slide Whistle http://www.musichouseshop.com/store/media/...ide_Whistle.jpg Siren Whistle http://www.musichouseshop.com/store/media/..._Acme_Siren.jpg Just so we all know the difference. Man, who would've thunk a thread on slide whistles would have lasted 3 pages. You folks kill me.
jonnyboy
What are the DCI rules on the slide whistle anyway? Maybe some corps will think outside of the box and amp one of the following playing melody next season: slide whistle, pitched set of whistles, pitched bulb horns, mouth harp, person whistling, human fart sound or whoope cushion (pitched). What say you all?
PhantomFanT10
At least it wasn't the year of the regular whistle like last year was!
