I must agree that Michael Klesh needs some love in this category. His arrangements with Garfield/CBC from 85 to 92 were incredible. He has done some fantastic arranging for other corps as well, including Crown the past few years, Colts a few years ago, and Phantom in 2000 and 2001 (two really great musical books). One thing I love about his arranging is that he focuses on arranging the music - an actual melody. He does not do the hack and slash and snip and cut arranging style that has come into vogue as of late.

A funny thing about MK..

A very nice guy..mild mannered..but don't play poorly!

BTW..he also wrote Spirit's horn book in 1990.

Mike Klesch is a really good friend of mine, and whenever I write for any bands, I ALWAYS try to get Mike the writing gig. His stuff actually contains a melody!! It makes it such a blast to write to! Really, I believe that a large part of Crown's success as of late has to do with Mike. Crown and Phantom are among the last of the corps who actually write brass books that you can listen to over and over on a CD and not get bored. And yes, you'd better play well in front of him!

I remember back in 84-96, you could buy the CDs, and just get lost listening to all of the great arrangements! BD 86, Suncoast any year, Spirit 85 and 86, VK 87/88, Phantom/Cadets/SCV 89, SCV/BD/cadets 90, etc, etc. I really wish that corps would find their way back to the time that a melody lasted longer than 8 counts.

I say Cavaliers for their on-field warmup alone.

You gotta love all those Dick Sauce chords you hear them play, and being one of the few arrangers who writes probably the most original music, easy answer for me.

Casella too, should be exciting seeing what he, and his team, does now that he's a little more settled in with the Cavaliers.

2. Cadets

3. BD

4. Bluecoats

5. Phantom

6. SCV

Its easy to misjudge arranging for brass concept.
