Hottest Show?

The hottest show I ever performed at was in 2004 in Pheonix, AZ.

After the show when we got back to our trucks and busses ....I passed out.

i was wondering when someone would mention an az show. And does it get cooler as the sun goes down or is it still hot out?

and yah DIV II/III corps have it the worst I think at a DIV I show, depending on where the show is at.

In 03 at the Phoenix show...it was over 100 degrees at 8pm - if that gives you any idea. However, I'll take that Airzona dry heat over that humid stuff down in Louisiana any day. The LSU show was a lot of fun, but the days of rehearsal leading up to it are among the roughest days I ever spent on tour.

I suppose I should not mention what happened to Capital Regiment this past summer in

06'. I know for a fact that that (heh) was 110+ degree weather in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Supposedly, I heard it got pretty hot in the stadium during the show, actual audience

members passed out and had to be escorted out.

Rumor is (pure rumor) that it got 131 inside the stadium. I think it could have been that hot

because of the terf field. It's almost like carpet and it does not help with the heat.

But, what do I know...???

Yes, last year in Pittsburg, KS was pretty brutal. They had to postpone the start of the show one hour because the field thermometer was pegged.

The day before, Blue Stars was practicing in our town (Augusta, KS). Although the air temperature "only" got to 107 that day, the humidity made the heat index well over 110. The temperature on the food truck was absolutely incredible, even with all of the doors open.

The only place I ever felt hotter was the 1978 American Legion Nationals prelims in New Orleans. The show was held at the old City Stadium, which was all concrete. From what we were told, the temp was an all-time record and the lovely New Orleans humidity was in full force. The volunteers literally wrung the sweat out of my wool corps pants after the show. Finals was awesome because it was in the Superdome, even though the echo was pretty bad.

I can recall one such rehearsal with the Renegades on a brand new astro turf field. It was off gassing badly in the 120 heat. Our snare harnesses got so hot you couldn't even touch them. Killed off lot's of brain cells that day alone. Luckily one of our fellow snare drummers who lived nearby offered his pool and jacuzzi to cool us off not to mention the homemade burritos and Diet Pepsi pre-show. Thanks Scott.

I wouldn't blame intolerance to heat for dropping Canadian kids...maybe they weren't eating well, or hadn't been sleeping enough, and that combined with the heat did them in. Canada gets very hot in the summer, southern Ontario (where 80% of Canadian corps have been from) gets up over 100 degrees and +90% humidity in July and August. Sure it's cold here in the winter, but it's also #### hot in the summer. :P

Absolutely!!! Yes Canada does get hot contrary to popular belief.

Let me also state that I was one of the Canadian Dutch Boy kids that passed out after the Altanta show in 1987. While true, we passed out due to the heat. It was NOT because we aren't use to heat. The majority of us that passed out were members of the colour guard. We passed out because the show was greatly delayed and we were made to wait by the gate for half an hour covered in our big huge black capes lined with red satin. We had NO AIR as we were not allowed to open our capes to stay cool so that the audience did not get a peek at our bodysuits before the big reveal. That year our openner was 4 and 1/2 minutes long and was 206 beats per minute.

I still remember 1980 prelims at Legion Field in Birmingham...thermometer read 140+ degrees when we went on. My soles melted during the show; and I had blisters on my feet! That was also the only time I had to sit down after a show due to the heat.

I was not alone. Those black tops were BRUTAL.

DCW actually had a pictorial of the on-the-field casualties (people passing out DURING their shows). A friend of mine even saw a soloist finish a solo, bow, turn....and hit the turf!

Worst heat on tour was always after rain and you could see the humity rise from the ground - and melt the members will.

1991 DCEast Finals in Boston, the prelims was canceled due to the heat. I passed out :( It was my first show with the Spartans

Good call - our rehearsal blocks in the NIU stadium were always extremely hot. That turf just seemed to soak up the son.

I will second that one - I remmember a early afternoon show where members were dropping like flies. At retreat in 01, a tenor player from Stragnas literally passed out in the middle of the field and just layed there. It was amazing, no medical staff noticed, and not one person on the field budged. Just an image that I don't think I will ever forget.

Then again, the only people that make it up to Canada anymore are in div 2/3 - so this stuff might more sense over on that forum.
