pitboy06
I recently watched a video of this show and have to wonder why it's not liked more. It seems that most people, on here at least, tend to put it with the likes of Spin Cycle [which i thought was pretty brilliant] as shows that did not work/click. While I, admittedly, don't enjoy 2005 as much as 2002 and 2006, it seems like it would be an ideal show: great drill, GE, good music..and the show never really stops moving from that opening fanfare. ...any thoughts? SF2K4
I loved 2005. I especially enjoyed the jazz number and thought near the end of the show when they compress the block into the crazy-ladder-circle-cluster-****-of-death was one of their best drill moments ever. Love it!
bigbadjosh89
I like the part where the Red Sox and the Cubs play in the World Series. Was that added in just for finals? Oh, and I think it is overlooked because of the other shows that year: Cadets controversial but extremely well executed and high-scoring "Zone" show. Phantom's enormous crowd reaction and all-around fan-favoritism. I was there in Foxboro, and when they said Cadets won brass, you should have heard the boos. Bluecoats also very popular Caravan show. BD's controversial Dance Derby. Madison's girl. Vanguard dropping down so low. I don't think its that people dislikede the Cavies show, but in a year where so many shows stuck out to people for various reasons, people tend to forget about it. That is just what I think, in response to your question. Edited June 21, 2007 by bigbadjosh89

2000Cadet
I love the Cavies, but that show was just not (in my opinion) a Cavalier show (this is just based from what I have seen from them, 95-on. I didn't really like the music at all. Also I agree with what one person said about how there were so many other corps that stuck out. Cadets were definitely my favorite of that year. But for the Cadets' show being very controversial, I think Cavies would have gotten a little more recognition for their show. And Cadets.....they DESERVED to win brass, contrary to popular belief. blitzcon
What you have to realize is that the show sure did click. It just didn't click as much as Cadets. It beat everyone else. Oh, it was a flop year for the Cavaliers. No it wasn't, it was a really good year for the Cadets. That's my opinion at least. The Cavaliers 2005 show was a fantastic show. Hornline played lots of notes and was loud. Drumline played lots of notes...Kuhn's last year, and he made it a really neat and cool drumline. Visually, it was just about as solid as 2004 though there was more dirt in the drill. Well, the bottom line is that it was different. Every year for the Cavaliers seems to be different every year. I just saw the Billy Joel show tonight and am extremely impressed with their show this year. Who cares how they do against other corps as long as they're getting better and better...which they are. Or something.
George
Phantom's enormous crowd reaction and all-around fan-favoritism. I was there in Foxboro, and when they said Cadets won brass, you should have heard the boos. Uh - just to set the story straight... The announcer made a mistake and first said Phantom had won high brass - folks BOOED the mistake when they announced the correct Brass winner. That should never happen No one around me thought Phantom had won high brass - we were sitting there disgusted at the MISTAKE. Cadets were in a league of their own that year in brass, percussion & guard.
fifer
It's interesting that you bring up the My Kind of Town show as that immediately came to mind in part of this year's Cavies show. If you have access to the recording of the Annapolis show on the DCI site, listen from 7:58 to 8:48 - sound familiar? It could easily be cut out and pasted into the My Kind of Town show as the city traffic scene (with the exception that the city traffic scene from the actual My Kind of Town show was MUCH better - and I'm talking about the writing and design, not the total ensemble tear that occurred in the Annapolis show from 8:32 to 8:41 in the DCI video). Not to go too far off topic, but this is just one of MANY resemblances that 2007's Cavies show has to other recent shows of theirs. And one of many that the original iteration of the effect from the previous show was much better than the 2007 version (at least in its current form). So, yes there was much to love about the My Kind of Town show. It's one of the Cavies best that the 2007 and every other one of their future shows will be compared to.
