hostrauser
LOOK AGAIN.Too much the SAME . corps need there own identity. They can not ALL play wind ensemble music. THATS WHY WE ARE LOOSING FANS >>> WE ARE GETTING BORING>>>>>>>>> LL Too much the same? I count in excess of three dozen selections in my shows that have NEVER been performed in DCI. Have you even heard "Thalaba the Destroyer" or "The Lake at Evening" (or "Silmarian Meanderings," or Jacques Ibert's--NOT Camille Saint-Saens'--"Bacchanale")? Too much the same? Blue Devils doing a show based on Carnivale? Carolina Crown putting an ancient Roman orgy on the field (well, figuratively)? The Cadets doing a show based on a novel about the comic book business in 1940s New York? Vanguard doing a show about the Aegean isles? When were those shows performed? Sure, some of the choices (Scouts show, specifically) were designed to put a new, fresh twist on a corps' traditional style, but I think a lot of the shows are pretty original. I also counted only about nine or ten pieces that are wind ensemble music, out of the 62 selections listed. I'm happy to accept constructive criticism, but I'm going to have to side with those who have come to my defense: you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about here. MikeD
you've been pushing this one for a while! (and I happen to agree. I've been waiting to see this on the field forever!) I know! And they just don't listen!

GMichael1230
And I STILL want Madison Scouts to tackle the "music inspired by" Dick Tracy soundtrack by Madonna...it can work. G
chaos001
yesand use Meditation from Thais by Jules Massenet , with extended sop solo for a ballad (I feel really happy thinking about it) if anybody OTHER than Phantom plays that, i will cry...... The piece is just SCREAMING "PHANTOM REGIMENT, PLAY ME!! PLAY ME!!!" hellllllllls yes. ;) which violinist's interpretation of this piece do u like the most? Crown's shows musically are not vanilla. Vanilla to me equals "bland" and not very interesting. technically speaking, vanilla's one of the most complex organic compounds people eat. sorry, that just crossed my mind while reading it. and to Bruckner for saying what he said... DrinkinOuttaCups
Has anybody done "Evening Prayer" from Hansel and Gretel? It's by Engelbert Humperdinck. I think it would make a fantastic ballad.
Gaddabout
Crossmen: The Music of Don Ellis I believe the Blue Devils have done this before. I think this because I recall a conversation with Don's drummer from that era, David Crigger, discussing the experience.

Bruckner8
I know! And they just don't listen! Sinfonietta is pure sound...I'm sure the visual people wouldn't have a clue. It doesn't meet the metric requirements either: it's too slow for "fast music" and too fast for "ballad." (The opener we're talkin about, right?) But just think how cool the drill could be, with different subdivisions of the beats moving in the "correct" relation to the music. 9 distinct Trumpet parts...that narrows it down to only a few qualified hornlines. I don't think the rights are easy to get either. Lookup "Janacek" on corpsreps.com...only one hit...for a corps I never heard of. As long as you're calling the people from the Janacek estate, make sure to get permission to do the Glagolitic Mass too: If you want to see it played, along with the Organ Postlude (or skip to 2:30 for the Intrada): The rest of the piece has incredible moments too, but I won't bore y'all anymore. I had the chance to perform this monumental work last February, at Carnegie Hall
