Electronics policies in the Cavaliers?

Recommended Posts

Hey, I am looking to march in the Cavs in 2016, I know they have a policy against cell phones which is fine, would they allow the use of an iPad? I use one to read, I thought it would be nice for bus tours. Just curious!

I don't know what the details of the Cavies' policy are. Is it a "no wireless devices" policy or only a no phones policy?

As of last year, cell phone access was restricted at the Cavaliers. If I recall correctly, cell phones were collected during the third week of ever-days and then handed out on the scheduled free days during the summer. Members had plenty of access to cell phones for calls as needed from the staff and / or volunteers. iPods, iPads, Laptops, MyFi access devices were allowed on tour (buses and schools) but carry at your own risk. Some WIFI access was available at schools, truck stops, etc. Information from a recent parent's meeting indicates the cell phone policy is under review due to the over abundance of other electronic devices available on tour. These other devices meet the needs of the members along with their number one source of communications - texting, Facebook, Twitter, and YikYak. Letter writing is also available for members. It seems phone calls were reserved for parents yet, we rarely received a call or letter. The girlfriend got the letters and phone calls. Our very blue moon text was nice.

I am dating myself, but I remember the excitement caused when a fellow horn player showed up for tour with a Sony Walkman cassette player. He probably regretted it, because we all pestered him non-stop to borrow it. I think I got my turn after promising to buy him batteries. Or pizza. Or maybe both.

I distinctly remember where I was when I first heard the sound coming out of a Walkman. I had one of the early portable VHS video cassette decks, and there were only a couple of places in Atlanta that sold blank videotapes. I had gone to one to buy some videotapes, and the guy behind the counter put the headphones on my ears and said, "here, listen to this, you won't believe it."
