Jeff Ream
Pineville parking pass: check cooler cleaned: check Wawa's programmed into GPS: check ready for another year to my favorite stadium that still holds drum corps shows!
mfrontz
Last time I went was 2011, and it started pouring right after Cadets' performance. 1993 Cavaliers. I will never forget the water splashing off the timpani heads at the conclusion of the second movement. And then, of course, 2004 Glassmen was pulled off the field halfway through their performance. When the rain stopped about an hour later, they were allowed to begin their show again, to a huge hype from the crowd.
Fred Windish
In case it was missed, securing hotel rooms in the Allentown Area should be a little easier this year. Bethlehem's massive Musikfest event has been pushed back a week, meaning the demand for lodging should be less by about 20%. Locations like Hotel Bethlehem, Hyatt Place, Comfort Suites, and the Sands Casino should be more accessible. We've also picked-up a few hundred brand new hotel rooms over the past 12 months. For anyone unhappy with quoted rates, or ready to try an alternative lodging choice, THIS is the year to make a switch. Shop around. Even at this late date. frachel
So I'm ashamed to admit it, but even though I've gone to Allentown since I marched in 87 I have no idea what there is "above" the stadium - I've never gone up that way!. I didn't know there was a fairgrounds there - what kind of stuff is there to do up there? I always park below, hit yoccos, watch the show, him ham-fam at intermission, finish show then leave towards Dorney park.. Sounds like there is food and other stuff up by Chew St.? Fred Windish
It's still a big local weekend. NASCAR and the Macungie Auto Show are still happening. I just did a quick check. The brand new Renaissance Hotel downtown Allentown has rooms available at $250 per night. It states almost sold out. Hotel Bethlehem requests you call the hotel directly. Rates WILL be higher than normal, there will be no discounts.
Tobias
Allentown is a tradition but honestly, I do t like the stadium. The front lines are so far back, you lose the intensity of the shows.
old drmmjr
We pretty much switcg hotels every year, or 2 at the most. Always stay in the Fogelsville/Breinigsville (sp) area. Hotels tend to be cheaper there and it is only a 10-15 minute drive to the stadium. It seems the hotels we stay in, tend to raise their prices every year or two, by up to 50%!!!! Always use to stay at the Hilton Garden Inn, until the prices went from $95 a night up to $149 a night, in 1 year! The Homewood Suites on Rt. 100 is a VERY nice, newer hotel, and is a reasonable rate. Added bonus, there is a Yucco's, a Dunkin Donuts, the Starlite Diner, a Cracker Barrel, and a few other restaurants on the same road as the hotel. Fred Windish
Sands Casino hotel in Bethlehem still listing Saturday availability. Agree with Tobias, the sideline set-back is further than the early years. Still similar, sometimes closer, than some drum corps event sites, but I am also disappointed. It's marked off for soccer. I really believe Allentown could be configured to use that sideline. The school district and grounds crew are VERY cooperative. No doubt, too late for this year. frachel
Allentown is a tradition but honestly, I do t like the stadium. The front lines are so far back, you lose the intensity of the shows. That's the biggest issue I've had with the renovation. The field is a good 10 yds. further from the stands than it used to be. Sitting up high you don't get the volume anymore.. thats a lot of distance for sound to travel.
