  1. There really is no SDCA vs DCI SS. SDCA is just doing it’s own thing. We work with community festivals to get these smaller groups into a paid parades and then entertain the community with a drum corps show either indoor or outdoor the same day, what ever the community will support. With this method we have given the performing groups from $800 to $2500 for each performance in 2013. Our staff are volunteers so it is difficult to get all this together and do a good publicity job. We are trying our best. Since 2007 we have grown to seven regions: Southern Cal, Texas, Gulf Coast, Central, Northern and Eastern Midwest with Florida moving along slowly. We have had 40 groups perform at our shows. Additionally we have assisted Canada in forming their own circuit and provided our theme music to South Africa groups. I have been in contact with John DeNovi, the DCI Sound Sport director, and we are working together to get smaller community based corps formed. John will be inviting SDCA groups to perform in DCI SS shows and he will be and has been giving me the names of the new DCI SS team so that I can invite them to SDCA shows. I hope this has answered the thread.

  3. This is the January 2014 Report for The Skyliners! We just completed our first full month of rehearsals at Sky. Attendance is ok considering we've had a lot of snow up here in Northeastern PA. Overall, we are very pleased with the corps' progress so far. The horn line has about finished the first two numbers. Percussion has the opener learned and about 1/2 of the second number. Just as a reminder - Our show "A New Dawn, A New Day" consists of "Feelin' Good", "Blue SKies", "It Ain't Necessarily So", "'Round Midnight", and we close with "Caravan". In our February rehearsals, brass will start on the next section of the show. Percussion will finish the second number and begin the next section later in the month. Along with the music, the visual staff is hard at work molding our appearance. Basics blocks take up a good portion of each rehearsal. We have lots of people from different programs. It is important that they learn one marching program - THE SKYLINERS marching program. We are also preparing for our first public appearance. We will be marching in the Scranton St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 15th. The corps is very excited about this. We've begun fitting everyone for uniforms and practicing parade music. As far as our current numbers: Brass line is in the mid-20's. We'd like to fill that out more especially in the baritone line. Of course, soprano and mellophone players are very welcome. We have 8 contras - a beautiful, deep sound to build from. Battery Percussion - Battery is currently at 4 snares, 2 tenors, 5 bass, 3 cymbals. Pit Percussion is doing very well. We are at 12-14 players there. Color Guard is currently at 16. Everyone is working very hard. As a Director, I can't be more thankful for the great staff we have. More importantly, the members are really excited about building this corps again. They all love being SKYLINERS! Openings are available is all sections. People are asking, "what is your goal, Class A or Open?". My answer is that The Skyliners will be competing this year. No matter what class is chosen, it doesn't matter. We will do the best we can in whatever class we end up in. The goal is to have the corps back on the field. Period. I've attached a video of our January camp. Enjoy! If you have any questions, my email address is Larry@skylinersdbc.org. http://youtu.be/KEsN8abnn2U Our next rehearsals are at Wyoming Valley West HS, 150 Wadham St., Plymouth, PA: February 1st, 10-6 for Brass and Guard. February 2nd, 12-6 for Percussion. Thanks! Larry

  6. You don't know facts. You say you know facts. You say you have them in your back pocket and we should believe you, but you don't ever show the facts. Your "facts" are based on other people, and histories from previous years. Because we all know previous years scores have 100% impact on this current shows. Also, please tell me where the audience gave us a golf clap. I guess it's funny that since you base everything on previous years "facts," that you recorded something in 2011 knowing full well you'd need to prove something down the line in 2 years. The question has been asked and you've ignored it. What corps and years have people not received applause. To date, your only response has been "I wasn't in Wildwood." :EDIT: I already know that IF you ever choose to respond, it will have to be a Rochester year where the hometown crowd is EXTREMELY biased.

  7. With apologies to my twin (Don) for posting another Sunrisers' inside baseball clue. Steiny yelling, from the stands after the 1982 dress rehearsal (which was a VERY hot day) "Off the Line # 2"..... Hey Contras where ya going? (That was somewhat directed towards our current victim. )

  10. 1,2) Cadets/BD - Two way dogfight from Minnesota until the end. 3) Crown - Percussion will bring them down. ---GAP--- 4) SCV - Organization and programming improving every year. 5) Bluecoats - Close to SCV. Brand new visual staff and marching technique will help greatly. 6) Cavaliers - Slowly attempting to rise back into prominence. 7) Phantom - Personally do not think that the Swan Lake show will translate well to the audience. Falls flat. ---GAP--- 8) Madison - Strong year in all captions, could go higher from here. 9) Crusaders - Drop off after past two years. 10) Blue Knights - Not much movement from years past. 11) Blue Stars - Consistent improvements after 2012 drop off. 12) Spirit - Close to dropping out but manage to stay in. ---Outside looking in--- 13) Crossmen 14) Troopers

  11. This particular sentence of yours is very interesting, and here is why: You claim to want to support small drum corps; that means you should actually celebrate any organization attempting to do that very thing. Not only SDCA, but celebrate Drum Corps North America, DCNA, for what they are attempting to accomplish; celebrate DCA for what they did in an attempt to help mini-corps and other small corps;celebrate DCI for what they are trying to do with SoundSport to help small corps. Instead, in your first post which stared this thread, you actually preached that less needs to be done by other organizations apart from SDCA to help the small drum corps, and you did this while you were the one sitting in your lounge chair on the internet doing everything you could to knock DCI attempting to help small corps with SoundSport.

  12. My vote goes to the Boston Crusaders for the most improved Corps during the course of the 2013 summer season. They finished 6th out of 6 Corps on June 22nd ( behind Spirit, and more than a couple of points behind Cavaliers ) and were ranked 14th the first week on DCP Rankings. They trailed Cavs, Madison, BK, for much of the season. But they wound up 8th, just a mere tenth behind the Cavaliers at Finals for 7th. They really came on strong to finish their season well and breaking into the 90's. As for the most improved Corps year over end ( 2013 from 2012 ), that honor seems to go to The Troopers, imo. In an age when its difficult to move up more than 2 placement positions from one year to the next, The Troopers went from 18th in 2013 to 13th in 2012, and came within less than 2 tenths of shocking the Blue Stars in the Semi's and edging them for that coveted Finalist spot. Their Semi's performance was " on ", and almost became the shocker of Championship week, imo.

  14. Despite the fact that it is my favorite song in drum corps, I have it on good authority that DCA has stated the next corps to play it is out.
