  1. I really didn't enjoy the show early season, but by the end of the season I loved it. I didn't realize that BD was beating them by that much early season. I was in the Merced Marching 100 from 1985-1989.....I remember beating Beyer on the field early season and loosing to them by quite a bit by the end of the season. Parade was another story. I believe the Beyer colorguard instructor was Scot Chandler in 1990, if I am not mistaken.
  2. 1-900-Can-Drum........I think......yep, guilty!
  3. Do you mean - Plié pronounced /plee-AY/ ?
  4. I hear a lot of praise for the Phantom 1987 costume, but I think Phantom 1988 (the "romeo and juliette" show) guard costumes were my favorite. I believe they won guard that year, too.
  5. This was tough for me.... 1996 BD......Loved Phantom, but I guess it came down to the colorguard making the decision for me. 1999 BD.....even more tough, SCV was very emotional, I guess I have to use colorguard again. 2000 Cavies..... I just don't like that Disney stuff Cadets did, although I know they did it very well can you tell, I am more of a guard person....lol All in all, what does it matter, they are all co-champions and well deserved!
  6. That is correct about the Kanji. I think Hrothgar's response earlier is Chinese. In fact, I am sure of it.. I find this title to be more appealing than last years....Just my opinion.
  7. I thought it was just laughing at first. But, during their victory performance, I believe it was more audible. I am almost sure he was saying "Winged Victory....along with the diabolical laughing". This may have been only for the victory performance, but when I hear the previous recording, I think I can still hear the words.
  8. I don't think BD used wings in 1986. It was 1985. They were spectacular...they started with different colors during the drum solo then they went into all white with gold trim. The wings in 1991 and 1992 were more "pant-wings" they actually had to step into them. Those 1992 wings were pretty colorful. Wow, watching the wings this year (2007) brought back some good memories.
  9. I was there in 1994, on a hillside house near Northridge! Wasn't fun at all. 4.5? no worries.....I better get ready for the show!!!!!!!!

  12. Well said. I see a consistency in all their captions this year. Regardless the outcome, it is going to be a good year for them. Go BD!!!!
  13. To tell you the truth, I was dissapointed with BD tonight, but then again, I am watching it on a laptop....congrats BD!!!! There guard was much better tonight I must say! I am glad Scott Chandler is back working with them.
  14. Just popped open a beer and I am ready to watch. Go BD!!!!
  15. I will be at the RITZ, along with another BD alumnus! Funny thing is that we don't live too far from Pasadena, but we are going to make the most of Championships being in Southern California.
  16. Okay, I will say it. Congratulations BD! Come to think of it, Congrats to Cavies and Bluecoats! There are obviously 7 very good corps this year. I know this is going to be a great season. It has been a long time since we have had this type of competition. I have seen everyone so far and I can honestly say nothing negative about any of the corps in the top 7 right now. Good job. I am so excited for the next month and to see finals in Pasadena! (of course, I am partial to BD and SCV, but hey, everybody has been very surprisingly great!)
  17. Just got back from the show. The Blue Devils really put on a mean show tonight. WOW! Kudos to Academy. Very impressive for the first night out.
  18. Interesting Glassmen colorguard costumes..... hmmm..... Are those slightly different corps uniforms, too?
  19. I fust realized that they haven't won the percussion trophy in quite a while, myself. I thought they were excellent 2006. However, the last few years they have placed either 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Not too shabby, considering that it's not like the early 90's where they were placing pretty low in percussion compared to the rest of the corps.
  20. Yeah, the SF Pride parade is quite an experience to march in. I remember back in the mid 90's marching with a colorguard group consisting of sabres, rifles, and flags that included veteren members from drum corps (along with some staff members) from all over the United States. In fact there was a similar group from Chicago that joined the California group in the SF Pride Parade one of those years. There were quite a few of us involved and the crowd was awesome! Those were great parades to march in. I wonder if they still do it these days.
  21. Percussion: SCV Brass: Blue Devils Guard: Blue Devils
  22. I just found out what 1000 airplanes on the roof sounded like. If I remember correctly, one of Scott Chandler's winterguards used the piece in 1990. I am pretty pleased with Phantoms repertoire so far.
  23. I got an 80.....number three I didn't have a clue. Sounded good though. And I regretfully missed number 8.
  24. Didn't Blue Devils win percussion 4 years in a row 1983,84,85,86. I think Tom Float was working with them those years if I am not mistaken. Also BD won colorguard 3 years in a row 1997,98,99.
