  1. I'll stir fry you in my WOK!!!! But Seriously, I LOVE the idea of MUSIC WE KNOW played differently. The "wonderful World" quote is my favorite part. I DO understand what people are saying about it being OVERARRANGED. I think there are parts that are a bit thick....a good blast from the hose should work nicely. I can't wait to see this on the field I HEAR YA BONES!!!
  2. Well, having read the entire thread up until this post, NOONE HAS MENTIONED 1991 CADETS. it took 6 years for me to like that show. I think it's pretty cool now!!!
  3. Disclaimer: No offense to the 1988 editions of the Sky Ryders and Bluecoats..... BUT imo Dutch Boy came in 11th Crossmen came in 12th from where I was sitting. Since that Semi finals night, I've had the privlege to march with BOTH Dutch Boy ( finally made it) and Crossmen Semis in 1988 was a catalyst for me marching with BOTH CORPS. Now, I sit and watch the TAPES from that night.....I still feel the same way. ALTHOUGH.... My favorite things (SKY) and Autumn Leaves (Coats) are among my favorite arrangements from that year!!!!
  4. my HS band director REALLY hated drum corps. "It's a waste of time" and "it's not REAL music" were his biggest complaints. 1 day in the band room, I played 88 Blue Devils on the stereo for some classmates. "Wow, who is that" asks my band director? "A bunch of people wasting their time, not playing real music" was my answer.... Yeah, I'm a smart ###.
  5. I remember CHESAPEAKE!!! I taught ther for 2 weeks (the LAST 2) Scott Stansfield and Shawn Carpenter are really great brass instructors. I had the honor of teaching with them at the NAVAL ACADEMY... Duh! Call Jeff Wier...He's the Civilian director of the Naval Academy Drum corps. He's a GOOD guy to have on OUR side...
  6. Edit> I just realized you are talking about yourself? {sarcasm on} Thats' because you're CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!!! {SARCASM OFF} But really thanks for the PM I will be in contact with Dennis VERY soon!!!
  7. JONNYBOY...I know a guy...IN BALTIMORE, who has had the "itch" to get back in the game for a while now. His job has kept him away from committing a LOT of time, but is willing to help out when wnd wherever he can... He even has a FUNNY AVATAR!!!
  8. Wow...hey I LIVE IN BALTIMORE...I could probably walk (but since I stopped marching have gotten VERY LAZY) Where will this "interest meeting be taking place?!?!?!?!?
  9. Anyone who was REALLY there would remember... They announced 25-13 scores.... They had 2 large envelopes...the bottom 6 drew first, then the top six. George reached his hand in the envelope and grabbed a large card that read "12". Total luck that last years winner went on last...
  10. I remember when I "got" the 88 Suncoast Sound show... Let me explain. They were at a show in LonGIsland...in early June. Everybody was dirty that night, but there was PROMISE... The show was explained to me by a snare drummer that I just walked up and asked...Mark, or Mike...M something was his name. I got to see them at EAST that same year. I UNDERSTOOD the show, just didn't "get "it. Semi Finals...Arrow Head Stadium ( a GREAT stadium...in the MIDDLE of the country...hint hint DCI) 2 rows from the TOP, 35 side a. A ball sails over a childs head, 4 notes are played...3 by EVERYONE, 1 by just pit, and I'm STANDING ON MY CHAIR APPLAUDING... What a GREAT drum corps moment...I miss them.
  11. Having enjoyed the "HONOUR" of marching in a line with Fast Frankie Nash, he not only gets a nod, he gets one with ATTITUDE. Larry Visconti is one of the reasons I hold sticks today...Thanks Dave "China" is another reason...Thanks. Nick Angelis is a BEAST. Mark Thurston is SCARY fast. Almost too fast! Mark Holub is probably the LOUDEST player I've ever heard. Every 32nd note was 15" IN YOUR FACE. But... When Rob Carson farts, it's at 260 bpm...flammed.
  12. I need a job where I have the weekends OFF. This sounds TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL!!! Good luck this year (and also wish me luck in finding a new job!!!)
  13. I didn't know Tony Soprano marched!!! (In reference to the guy on the right)
  14. I guess they didn't teach you the 12th General order 12. To walk my post from flank to flank, and take no #### from ANY RANK! THAT...is all
  15. I remember being next to Boston in 1990...They weren't big fans of DUTCH BOY that year. On a particular night, they lost and let US know how they felt about it. As they played Conquest, instead of just a "war cry" they yelled" DUTCH BOY SUCKS" which I always thought was funny, 'cause THEY were trooping US. That same year, they had FYM on their undershirts. We thought it stood for "Fix Your Mistakes", but apparently it stood for something else. The "rivalry" thing is fun...kinda. I think things got a little WIERD that season. They would get really angry at us when we beat them. I thought that was what the activity was about. Meet on the field, do battle, talk about it afterward. Some of those guys took it a LITTLE too personal that year. It's a shame, 'cause THEY WERE REALLY GOOD!!! I never got to tell any of them that...they were too busy being BAD ### Crusaders...
  16. In 1995, The Marine Drum Corps AND the Silent Drill Platoon went to a BOA event with the Cavaliers and Cadets. The drill team watched the Cavies guard and was laughing at all the "gay" dance stuff. The Cavies guard went and picked up rifles, and started spinning and tossing. The Marines shut up....and watched for 30 minutes. after that they switched "rifles" and the Cavies guard captian threw a toss with an M1. They actually learned a lot from each other that day. Soon after that, the leader of the drill team asked some of the drum corps guys to borrow tapes, so they could watch the guards!!!
  17. Fran, if you need ANYTHING, an ear, a drinking buddy...I'm 20 minutes away...
  18. Bay Brass was the name of 1 (of many) failed Drum Corps in maryland. The Chesapeake Bay Brass rehersed in Westminster, Md, were taught by John Milauskaus (sp?), Carl Diefenbach....well I think he was there...it was 1994.The corps lasted 8 months The next year, it was just Chesapeake. And it lasted 4 months. So, my vote is AGAINST Bay Brass. Tidal Force? It could work... edited cause I can't spl
  19. Hey Mike! It was mentioned that there was an alternative to marching in a mini corps in Maryland. I said "not for everybody"...fitting perfectly WITHIN the topic of CREATING a new corps that EVERYBODY can march with :) . So, to STAY on topic, when is the next planning meeting for this new "Delmarva Marvelettes" Mini D&B Corps? Sorry, I just couldn't resist "naming" the corps... Thank you for your time.... Get well soon Barbara!!! Gene
  20. This is gonna sound bad, no matter HOW it's said...BUT IT'S GOT TO BE SAID. There are some of us that CAN NOT march with the YANKEE REBELS. I know there has been an "image shift" with said organization, BUT I'D HAVE TO KICK MY OWN ### if I marched behind a REBEL FLAG. Maybe I have serious hang-ups about "states rights" and maybe they differ from OTHER PEOPLES OPINIONS on what that flag represents. I DON'T CARE. I'd LOVE to march with a corps from Maryland...but not that corps. Go ahead and FLAME AWAY. Tell me about all the changes in the organization. If the flag stays, I STAY AWAY. And that, my friends, is the end of this message...
  21. The bird call from Bones 92 was from LP (Latin percussion) they make a very good bird call.
  22. First off, BRAVO for showing off the goods so early. Everyone else is hiding, and the Cavies just "PUT IT OUT THERE". That takes guts. Second, WOW! The nonsensical myth about not being able to play popular music is SURELY DEAD. This is what I dream about at night. Music I know, done slightly different and pumped up for the field. I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS SHOW!!!! (I will miss Annapolis, 'cause I'm going to Bonnaroo, but I WILL SEE THE CAVIES THIS YEAR. ). You've hit a home run, Jeff Good Luck to the Cavies, and all other corps competing this year!!!
