  1. Thanks. Come on y'all.... SOMEBODY must know of some unused equipment gathering dust in the back of a corpshall somewhere??!! Any help IS greatly apprecieated. Our tenors are literally held together with metal bars bolted onto the shells!!
  2. Hey y'all! I am here to basically beg, steal, or borrow any equipment that may be out there to help out with the corps that I work with, the Cheshire Cadets, from Warrington England. We just recently finished our first year in DCUK, coming in a very respectable 6th place in A Class with a very entertaining show by an extremely young corps. We are very proud of the kids and how well they represented themselves this year and look forward to many great things in the future. That said, this is where we need your help! We (like most everyone else I am sure) are on a very limited budget. Our fundraising venues are very limited. Mostly we get by on members dues and various arts grants. Whilst this is sufficient to keep the corps up and running, it is not sufficient for replacing equipment. Our drums are in very very bad shape, and the harnesses are not any better. Currently, our battery (all Premeir) is (no joke) about 10 years old and showing every day of it's age. We are in desperate need of the following items. If anyone can help, please contact me via pm, email or you can ring me on my cell phone. The number (as dialled from the States is 01144 7763 111 098). Any donations will be greatly appreciated and we will certainly acknowledge all donations on our website http://www.cheshirecadets.org Tenor drums (two sets) Snare Drums (about five) Bass Drums (five) Harnesses (desperately needed) Skins Cymbals (all varieties) Flag Poles / Flags Gong Guard Accesories (Virtually any will do) Now I realise that it is a big list, but we will certainly be interested in anything on offer. The tenors for instance....Anything that we could get for them would probably be better than what we have now!! So have a look araound and if you think you can help us out, please contact me. Thank you in advance!
  3. May not be popular with my Freelancer brothers, but VK 92.

  5. I am speechless. This is just simply AWESOME!!
  6. Now if we could just get DCUK into the fold it would be a truly European finals. There are a few DCUK corps that I think would represent quite well. The Senators, Kidsgrove Scouts and a few others would surprise a few of the bigger Continental corps!
  7. Jason Mackenroth, the drummer for the Rollins Band and Mother Superior was a snare player with the Freelancers in 1987 (and 85 also if I am not mistaken). Here is the proof... www.jason-mackenroth.com
  8. This thread really is not going anywhere. We all know that George Hopkins has many controversal ideas. Whether or not he is or is not the face of the Cadets, I think that hte Cadets are probably suffering from guilt by association. I cant say that he is a friend, as I only met him by chance about 8 years ago at competition, but from what I can recollect, he was a genuinely likeable guy, and mabey THAT is what annoys so many people about him.
  9. Looks more like Freelancers to me. Probably wrong though.
  10. Hey Serena!! Whats up girl? I have some pics, I will put them on a cd rom for you if you like!
  11. Yeah, Rick is a very passionate guy. He came to work with us in 1991 at Freelancers on a consultants basis and I would say that the sound of our hornline that year was miles better than we had ever been. I wonder what ever happened to him?
  12. Of course, I would assume that the topic starter meant videos to buy and NOT videos to DOWNLOAD!!
  13. Nah...No way. Nah, no regrets. Would do it all over again given half a chance! I actually tried out for BD in 92 (My age out year) and would have made the line, but decided that the Freelancers were my home and where I belonged. I started there in 87 after we folded. I was there the first time we made finals in 89. I was there for the heartbreak that was 1990, and the jubilant return that was 1991. I was also there in 91 when like half our corps aged out. I felt it was a duty, and an honor to finish out my junior corps career there, and help set the foundation for the future of the corps. But THAT is a whole different story!
  14. Absolutely great! Am I the only one who thinks that Garfield's uniforms were sooooooooooo much better back then?
  15. Come on now. We all have those one or two shows that make you curse your parents for not creating you several years sooner so you could have seen them live. Or there was the time that you flunked Geometry and had to go to summerschool so you didn't get your corps fix that year. Whatever the reason, it was certainly a crappy one, and because of it, you missed shows. What are some of your favorite shows that you didn't have the good fortune of seeing live and what is your excuse...err... I mean reason that you weren't able to? Some of mine would include 93 Star of Indiana 75 Muchachos 96 Phantom 84 Freelancers 85 Suncoast Sound 75 Muchachos
  16. Agreed. They are not bad uniforms, they just are not Madison. My nomination for worst ever uniform redesign has to go to the 1985 Freelancers. Thankfully we returned to our senses in 87. We even wore spats. Now THAT is hardcorps!!
  17. Oh man I nearly had forgotten about that. Reading this caused me to get chills. I remember how shocked we (the hornline) were to see Richie practically losing the plot. He was so intense that he scared the crap out of the younger members of the hornline! That was the most amazing regersal though. And when Greg gave the hornline his "commentary", you could just see 70 chests swelling with pride. I dont think VK beat us again that year from that point forward. It was an Amazing year. I call our semifinals show from 89 "The Magic Show" because that's exactly what it was. Purely magical.
  18. Different eras mate. The eighties werent so much about trying to convey emotion as much as the were about trying to blow your face off!!! Dont watch this show and try to read too much into it. That said, Born Again (the Off The Line) is and will continue to be one of my all time favorite openers.
  19. I think I may "know someone" who may know something about the whereabouts of said note. :sshh:
  20. I might "know someone" who may know something about the "Rainbow Incident" :P God I really miss drum corps eighties style. It was just so much fun!
  21. Gee I wonder WHO you could be referring to.... :P
  22. Here we go........again. I think it is greta that Santa Clara has the full show on the field in May. Back when I marched, May was spent filling/closing holes and learning the last couple of minutes of the show. I can only think of one year (91) when we didn't finish the show with a standstill for the last couple of minutes during our first few shows out of the gate. So, bravo SCV, sounds like you are ahead of the game!
