  1. Well, I don't think SCV needed to wear masks to convey that their '89 show was about "The Phantom of the Opera." It was kind of snobbish for them to assume the audience was ignorant or just plain stupid. :lolhit:
  2. I dindn't know you were psychic! Who's going to win finals in 2009? :P
  3. What do you mean by stand on its own legs? It helps convey the theme just like the colorguard, brass, percussion, and drill do. I'll "put up" with anything that is well-integrated and adds to a show's enjoyment factor. And I'm sorry that you wouldn't understand the show without the vocals, though. GO CADETS! :)
  4. Yeah, I didn't care for the freaks comment either. I think (hope) he meant the concept was freakish, not the performers, though the bitterness of the post makes me dubious.
  5. Overall very good, but I hated hated hated hated hated hated hated all of the attention on "guest performers", e.g. Carmen, Astaire/Kelly, and the dream girl. Carmen tosses her hair and is a good dancer, and is obviously very talented. Same with Astaire/Kelly. Focusing on the Cadets' dream girl helped communicate the show's concept. But, one or two shots for a few seconds on each would have sufficed. Any more than that, and it's overkill.
  6. Shot selection--Overall very good, but I hated hated hated hated hated hated hated all of the attention on "guest performers", e.g. Carmen, Astaire/Kelly, and the dream girl. One or two shots for a few seconds on each would have sufficed. Any more than that, and it's overkill, and the audience is missing out on THE REST OF THE SHOW!!!!!! BLAH! Color Balance--didn't care. Announcing Staff--They're not the reason I attended. Didn't care.
  7. OMG, Bawker. Love the avatar and the sig pics.
  8. I like it when they do both. So did the crowd at my theatre. So did the crowd at the venue, from what I heard. I think they'll stick with their own notions of novelty. I could be wrong...
  9. 5. People in the stands who comment on everything in every corps show all of the time. Talk about annoying narration. :lolhit:
  10. I CAN'T HEAR YOU! CAN YOU PLEASE MAKE YOUR FONT LARGER AND CHANGE ITS COLOR TO SOMETHING MORE EYE-CATCHING?
  11. I love SCV so much, but it pains me to say they are right where they should be. If anything, BK got hosed last night, IMO.
  12. Oh yeah, on a positive note, one of the best moments of the night was when they showed the 27th Lancers alumni performing in '94. A lot of people in my theater were asking "who are they?", but at the end, the whole audience clapped heartily. It was great. :)
  13. TOO MUCH #### TIME SPENT ON INDIVIDUAL COLORGUARD MEMBERS! Especially Madison, Phantom, and most especially, The Cadets! So many great things going on during so many moments the camera just sat there on Carmen, Fred Astaire, and the dream girl. blah!
  14. BK's '99 ballad. It's perfect. I don't think G-Men's '01 ballad gets enough attention either. That Blauth Oboe Concerto is one of the most pleasant things I've ever heard on the field. Not bad playing but the flugelhorn who played the solo either. :) Oh, and I forgot to add the first 35 seconds of BD '98. Great brass sound, IMO.
  15. That is great to hear. There's nothing more fun for a spectator than to see performers enjoying themselves. I'm more excited than ever for the theatre broadcast. Where is your son's solo in the show? Tell him best of luck from all of us here. :)
  16. No show till thurs, but let's chat anyway. :)
  17. I agree with you, bawker. This feels very much like a crossroads, doesn't it? I really like the Cadets' show this year...that's the first time since '00. Believe it or not, I tend to really dislike narration as much as anybody else on here, but I think the Cadets' is additive, not subtractive. And the arrangements are fun. If this is the direction corps goes in, I won't be too scared. :)
  18. Trust me, I am "out there" ALL of the time, with or without reading DCP, and when I need reality, you'll be the first person I come to. :P I'm glad to know you don't think BD's show is garbage this year, and I apologize for saying it.
  19. It will indeed. I have a question for those of you who have seen the Cadets' show. Do the kids look like they're enjoying performing their show? Their '97 and '00 shows were great because you could see they were really letting lose and enjoying the performance. Just wondering if that's going on again this year. Thanks.
  20. I'm sorry if I interpreted your statements incorrectly. Since I seem to do it so often, I recommend that you stop reading them. I'll continue to comment on whichever posts get my attention. Sorry if you don't like it, but you reap what you sow. So do I, of course. If I had been able to write a review for the one show I went to, I would have. And I would give just about anything to see BD live this year, despite the fact that I agree with a lot of what you've said about them, based on what I've heard. I'd like to point out that I never said that I disagreed with anthing in your review, I just understand why BD wouldn't want it on their own site.
  21. I don't think half of the people in here have ever even been to the BD forums, because if they had, they'd see that about 1/3 of the threads on the first page have honest-to-goodness criticism of BD's show this year...and the ones that are up manage to do it without calling everything about BD's show and their staff garbage. Civility, what a concept.
  22. And I think most of us wouldn't have it any other way. :) Where do you get those awesome photos in your sig, anyway? Do you make them yourself? At any rate, GO BD!!!
  23. Ouch. That hurt bad. At any rate, G, we both remember what happened when BD got flack for their music in '90. They came out with a mind-blowing brass book the next year. Hopefully, something similar will happen next year.
