  1. BD day off in Chicago with a little side trip to the Art Institute of Chicago https://imgur.com/P8WydWN
  2. My daughter is an age out / rook out this year with BD
  3. FWIW, once heard an anecdote that said people on their deathbeds have more regrets about the things they didn't do than regret for things they did.
  4. ScoJo for sure, and from our era there was also Nat Barouche - 1983 Center snare, I&E winner, Hi drums and then DCI in 1982.
  5. Mama Bear, don't let the hate get to you. It's been going on for a long time and comes with the territory of being at the top of the competitive heap. We heard variations of these same lame excuse "waaah" factor arguments 35 years ago... "their show isn't as hard as" (fill in the blank corps), "all they do is play easy ride cymbal parts" yada yada... BD wears all the carping as a badge of honor and does their talking on the field - As we sometimes used to say ... FYWW
  6. Donated via the website, twas easy. Good Luck Pioneer!
  7. Thanks for the bump..... Donated
  8. I'm in.... Even if this was a case of poor planning, I choose to help out when someone is in need rather than engaging in second guessing. My choice of course, and to each their own, but participating in drum corps has given me and my family more than I could ever give back. I see this as an opportunity to tangibly pay forward some of the good will that I've been so extremely fortunate to have been the beneficiary of in my past. BEST OF LUCK LEGENDS, hope to see you in Mich City! https://www.classy.org/campaign/legendsnow/c138390
  9. btw, it's thrilling for me to see scv to regain their mojo of old. Devs will be just fine, but if SCV tames that beast of a show they will contend for gold (imo)
  10. Yah... swing and a miss ... too much 24 hr news cycle for me lately.
  11. What happened? Did they forget to declare their Russian marching members on their security clearance form? ; )
  12. In a YT video posted from Seattle I definitely heard Dindi (a trumpet duet ala the 1980 sop duet)
  13. Would Spartacus count? ( military theme, not so patriotic however)
  14. . Maybe not a world where they get shot, but definitely a world where they can be eaten by zombies... https://youtu.be/aSz7SFk6ugM?t=129
  15. I was the BD timpanist in 1981 & 82. Mike Moxley (BD's drill designer at the time) told me at one point during the 82 season was that the real motive behind the creation of the off field pit was because the visual designers wanted use of that prime real estate in the front part of the field. Drill design for marching mallets and timps back then mainly consisted of having them stay upfront and that consequently occupied a good portion of the "stage" between the 35's yd lines. Grounding the timps (1980 was first time for BD) took up the center part that valuable space as well. By moving the grounded percussion off the field it opened up that space to the design team, and for BD in 82 that meant great staging for featuring our winged dream girl color guard. Oh, and of course, seeing that there is a BD hornline in the equation it naturally meant more room to bring more lead soprano's down front and plant them on the 50 yd line 😉.
  16. Seattle Imperials circa 79 -80 had "Iso Toms" It was a snare with 3 shallow cut toms attached / each drum had an acrylic sheet type sound reflector. That was a kick a$$ funky drumline too. Always enjoyed their samba groove cadence.
  17. It was a roto tom set up, can't recall if it was 3 or 4
  18. This is just a gut reaction theory only, not based on any specific knowledge. After I looked at Tresona's video describing their business model, it occured to me that there's a distinct possibility they may be making a play for a potential takeover as the distribution platform for DCI, BOA etc. They are an online platform for securing digital rights for performing organizations (drumcorps, colleges, high schools) but also for content distribution and ecommerce (aka - a replacement for fan network / APDs, VPD's). The short "about us" video can be found here: https://www.tresonamusic.com/page/about-us I may be wearing a tinfoil hat about this, but having been in software licensing business for a long time, that model of being the single source service provider rings true as the kind of $$ play I would want to make in their shoes. They would make money on securing the licensing upfront, and make money on the back end by providing the distribution services / ecommerce platform. Can you say "vendor lock in"?
  19. Purple Haze........ "'Scuse me while I kiss this guy"
  20. I saw their faces in the parking lot Monday night, the shock, the resolve... I had been there myself in 1980, just knew they would come out with fire in their eyes on Tuesday and they didn't disappoint. They represented the heart and spirit of the Blue Devils in that Tuesday night show. Serious congrats to the 2013 BDB org and the battery and front ensemble for an inspired performance.
