  1. ...and playing! Nothing like shower acoustics...almost like it made you play better. Ahh...to have shower chops on the field... Thinking about it, a friend of mine didn't think you could lip trill on a bari. I had to prove him wrong...in the shower!
  2. For me, high school band was the shocker. I was the reason the "Mr. Intensity" award was created at Suncoast in '92 and when I got back to school, I was going NUTS! Most of the band hated me my junior year because I was so hard and I didn't get it (when you run off and chew out a tree after a bad rehearsal (in drum corps), your 'zone' becomes leathal!). The band president *tremble* my senior year told me I was out of form and to dress a circle formation when I was at the bottom of it. At the time, we had a guy who marched '75 Madison instructing us and he heard what she said. I looked at him with rage (I was still intense - beginning of the year) and he yelled to me "I'LL TAKE CARE OF IT!!!" I was about to turn her into the kid that carried the yard markers to and from the field. The best feeling resulting from drum corps was in Marine Corps boot camp, November 1994. I once snuck into a squad leader position right before drill and the drill instructor was in awe at how I marched. He actually said that I looked like I was performing. I was "Good to go!" I had a couple guys in my platoon try to razz me about never looking around while standing at attention in the barracks. I challenged them to try it themselves. By the reation of the drill instructors, they failed. My biggest sense of pride in bootcamp (besides having to dress like a Christmas tree for the platoon) was once during the 2nd month/phase...during mail call. The drill instructor called my last name and then said "Do we even HAVE a C***y here?" I grinned and exclaimed "SIR, YES SIR!!" He didn't know I existed. THAT, my friends, is called 'doing what you're told'. Someone posted that they walk in step to music but break step when walking by Ambercrombie, or however you spell it, in the mall. I do the same when I hear 'bad' music in the parking lot. Observe this: In every day life, which foot takes the first step from a standstill? (edit) Oh yeah, it was also neat to have the darkest tan in school when the hortie-torties tried to come back from summer all primmed up. "What did you do?" they asked.... :-D
  3. What a year!! I have been away from the activity for a few years until last year and have NEVER seen a top 17+ like this year. What an outstanding lineup of corps. It is funny to see the reactions from a show announcements at the beginning of the year. Corps with 'victory' in their show theme...controversy and whatnot. After hearing the opinions of Spirit's announcement and then finally seeing the show in San Antone, I was pleased and entertained with Spirit's design and performance (along with everyone else - scoring/placement opinion aside). The unis are great - the right side of the jacket rigid with a flowing left side. The show design its self was a departure from Spirit's tradition, similar to the 1988 show. What will next year bring? I am curious as to what Spirit has in store for next year. I hear that they warmed up to Georgia On My Mind for semis and finals...so they haven't turned their back on their roots. I was waiting to post this after the season to hear what others had to say, as they compare Spirit's announcement, to their show, to their placement and to their future. Here was Spirit's annoucement:
  4. I hear that the Blue Devils showed up...
  5. I use to sing the pinball countdown on the field at everydays (Florida heat caused strange things to occur). Hind sight, wouldn't this have been a sweet I&E tune? And they yell '12' at the end? Reminds me of the '7' shirts in 1994. Speaking of the Tommy show, is it me or did the 2007 ending slightly remenece (sp - no google mood) the ending of the 90 show, which is what put the fire in me to march?
  6. The flourescent ceiling lights popped on just as Crown's show started at the IMAX in Houston. I thought..."If I was only packin'"... They turned them off within the first FIVE minutes of the show. pffffft
  7. We have the cause and effect, but I thought about a possible result...is it possible that this action placed a little urine in the OJ of the corps who is having a 50th anniversary, in their backyard, with a show titled 'Winged Victory'? Indirectly, of course...
  8. ...priceless... Not that this will make or break them, but I hope a little 'long F' will give Spirit some more GE...
  9. While re-reading this thread, I had forgot about the time around 1993 when I was at a band competition in Florida, singing to what the band on the field was playing...Midnight in Miami. I said out loud "What the...?" To my best recollection, the band director, who was short with me, stated that he knew Robert Smith. So, I don't know if any tunes from that show were commercialized or it had once been written for band. *quiver*
  10. I recently chose to not date a woman anymore because she...talked too much. Perhaps it's just a guy thing? I'd like to get a copy of the karaoke version of 2007 Cadets...you know...no words? Nothin but notes. Speak softly and carry a big stick.
  11. Suncoast 1985 was included in my Legacy Collection that was purchased last year. I got lucky?
  12. The Marine Drum & Bugle Corps is using 2-valve Kanstul brass in the key of G.
  13. I was booed at our 1994 talent show. I tried to jugle and was never good at improv. Dave, at LEAST we got to see the whole race...live! Heck, you get to see it again next week, yes? It's hot outside. ...back to the forum...
  14. But do we agree that we (the general public of DCP) are bashing the design teams or decisions made by DCI and not the kids? I mean, the kids may choose to join an organization, but they are the most honest and innocent ones in the activity, I think. I've said before, being a former Marine, we may not agree with our gov't, but shouldn't we support our troops that are in a conflict that is generally not supported by the public?
  15. I am often a believer in numbers. I feel that GE is better judged by the GP (general public?). If a crowd has a vocal response, that speaks volumes. Also, I tend to be more impressed with someone/thing that is smart enough to be simple. Why get penalized for performing within your means? Pfffft....
  16. Also, the Marine Drum & Bugle Corps purchased a new set of 2-valvers from Kanstul in the past few years.
  17. Coats bari soloist in 90 with an ascending lip trill.
  18. 85 Suncoast had a snippet of "When You Wish Upon A Star"...the same year that Star performed it in their show.
  19. Out there in the spotlight You're a million miles away Every ounce of energy You try to give away As the sweat pours out your body Like the music that you play Bob Seager Turn The Page
