  1. At the end of each season at Troop, members keep (kept? not sure if/how this will continue) their scarf ring. Vets when I was there had them pinned to the left side of their jacket, but I put mine on a spare dot book string and still wear it almost daily 3 years later. Ageouts also get to keep their sabers, which I placed on my jacket. I believe the drumline gets a button off of some of the first sets of jackets to wear on a string, but I don't know the specific details on that.
  2. If I may... I believe this a thread about Bluecoats' 2010 show. BD is irrelevant to the 2010 Bluecoats show. kthxbye
  3. Evan's a director in Texas now, just throwin' that out there. I know students from Avon have marched Crown, and with the connection it makes sense, but I wouldn't really compare the two- at least not as far as saying that "Crown is the corps equivalent of Avon." Both great programs, both great instruction.
  4. 91 bottles of Yuengling on the wall, 91 bottles of Yuengling, take one down pass it around, 90 bottles of Yuengling on the wall
  5. Per Crown's site, they're staying at Bloomington HS. Hope this link works: Crown Housing
  6. From the Casper Tribune: Personally not a fan. Like the previous 3 years, there is no upper/lower body separation. The belt didn't work as a baldric in 2008 and still doesn't- partially because of the way it lies, and partially because nothing is holding them in place so everyone's buckle is in a different location on their body. Also think it's strange to have the black and gold one one side of the jacket but on the other side of the pants. Yellow collar emulating scarf is fine. I *do* like that it's still instantly recognizable as the Troopers, though. It's an improvement, just not the direction I thought they might go (don't ask what that direction would be... I can't even draw stick figures).
  7. Tried it about a month ago, was also incredibly unimpressed.
  8. It's ok, the spats will make it all better
  9. I think you might be onto something there...
  10. A friend of mine just posted that Academy needs 4 euphs, but I haven't seen anything posted officially from the corps.
  11. Pretty ridiculously awesome, though I could totally do with a few more phrases. Absolutely love that piece and their arrangement is great.
  12. Try checking here: http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/inde...howtopic=136241 Places I can think of that I've heard recently: Crown, Bluecoats, Colts, Mandarins, Teal Sound, and Crossmen.
  13. When I wasn't on staff, I would make care packages for my friends that were marching and deliver them after the San Antonio show each year (that's where I'm from so it saved me from spending a ton of money on shipping 13 packages). I would usually pack things like new socks, DCT and/or Lip Medex (made by Blistex, great for brass players), homemade chocolate chip cookies, Gatorade powder (the individual packets for smaller water bottles), candy, WalMart gift cards, etc. Hope this helps!
  14. As you mentioned, VDL is just a sound library- "live" samples, so to speak. Lots of times when you hear "drumlines" on things like the commercial breaks from sports games, tv shows, etc, it's a sampled sound, not an actual, recorded drumline. That being said, I wouldn't actually say there's a "connection" between Glee and drum corps, or even SCV specifically, moreso than there's a connection anywhere else VDL is used. It also came out in the early to mid-2000s (somewhere between 2003 and 2005), so if you were to make staff connections, go with the staff from then, not now. Either way, VDL is a fantastic program (as is Glee!), and it's cool that you guessed that's what you were hearing- I hadn't even thought that much about it :) David Reeves- http://www.innovativepercussion.com/pages/.../bio.asp?id=239 (writes a lot now... did Troop's drum book in 2009, did the book for the indoor line I was in in 2008, etc.) Tom Rarick- http://www.innovativepercussion.com/pages/.../bio.asp?id=236 Erik Johnson- http://www.cavaliers.org/cgi-bin/staff.pl?...rson&id=126
  15. From some preliminary stuff I saw at TMEA it looked pretty sweet... look forward to seeing it on the field this year for sure.
  16. http://corpsreps.com/corpsreps.cfm?view=Co...poserQry=Mackey Multiple works, multiple corps. There's obviously an attraction between drum corps and his compositions.
  17. I feel like many just watched the video and didn't read. This facility isn't so the corps can have a nice place for camps and all-days. It's for making the performing arts an activity available to students of all ages, skill levels, and incomes. From their page: The Plan “The Carolina Crown Performing Arts Training Center” - Build a training facility for young performers of all ages, ethnicities and economic backgrounds to attend and receive the highest possible education. - Provide individual lessons to nurture and advance their abilities. - Provide the best instruments and equipment available for them to use. - Have the ability to educate, feed and house all in one building. - Give individuals, schools and national touring companies the ability to use state of the art multi-purpose rehearsal space. - Have a theater large enough to hold concerts and recitals. Sounds like it would be pretty community-aimed to me.
  18. 07 Age-out, music ed major. 3-hour flight and then a 4 hour drive (I believe camps are usually more of a 2-3 hour drive, but I joined up during all-days so it was a 4.5 hour drive from the Denver airport to Casper)
  19. To (partially) sponsor at least 3 members this year. And to try to get my tour body back... sans tan.
  20. As I avoided many of the electronics threads in the past, I hesitate to ask this, but.... Are malletKATs ok or have they been discussed? We had one at my high school and I've seen a handful of programs use them- and have replaced their timpani with them, as you can produce a roll on these instruments. Obviously the percussion patches wouldn't be ok at this point, but have they been mentioned at all? They may have been a short-lived trend of the early 2000s, I haven't really looked for them in a few years. Just throwin' it out there...
