Capital Regiment's Return
prodigal bari replied to btracht's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Since I am a parent and a teacher, I would answer NO for the following reasons: 1. Apparently the same person who was heading the corps when all the problems occured in '05 and before is still heading it up. I have no confidence that they can do any better this time (even if they could); and I will not take that chance with my child or recommend it to a student of mine. 2. There are too many other corps to choose from that have proven stability and staff who will not allow the things that happened with CR to happen to their members. It is, bluntly, too dangerous. (And unfortunately, I am not being dramatic here; as anyone who followed this story knows.) IMO; there must be a COMPLETE break from the past staff; and that includes Rick Bays; and a full resturcturing, before I would even consider it...and depending on my child/student's needs, I would have to consider other options. You have to look at two corps (Blue Star and Troop) to find the textbook way to rebuild from ashes and mismanagement. I see none of these steps evident in what is publically being done with CR...and DCI should not allow them to return to DCI without evidence of this...and not under previous management. -
Phantom Regiment guard rumor
prodigal bari replied to GSNewell's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
However, with the inference that comes with 'let go;' your announcement makes it no longer between PR and Adam; especially since you posted it on a public forum as a representive of the PR organization. Can't have it both ways even in this PC world. -
That's because you are not a dinosaur! Gotta go eat a tree now....

The official "Phantom wins!" topic!
prodigal bari replied to AzEuph's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
In a way, it is a shame that this show will not be repeated next year...I am not a big fan of repeat shows; but THIS one I just cannot get enough of. AND...maybe it will signal the return of the in-your-face shows as a winning competitive formula with the judging community (as if we are not already seeing it return with many of this years' programs... ) -

Phantom Regiment's standing ovation
prodigal bari replied to Hrothgar15's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Frankly, this has been one of the most entertaining years I have seen in a couple of decades...and the crowds are appreciating it a lot more than ever. Having said that; PR's ovation was one of the top ones....although I can remember more thunderous in Finals situations (i.e.; 1980 with Bridgemen and especially Spirit...r.i.p. Jim Ott...) -
I know this is a troll post; but I feel this needs to be responded to.... GIVE ME A FRIGGIN' BREAK!!!! These performers in the aformentioned corps are old enough to know performance vs. real-life. I saw NOTHING offensive in either of these shows...they are true to their content. (Are you, after all, even remotely familiar with the story of Spartacus? This was NOT a PC-infused lovefest. At least PR did not do the Appian Way and the thousands of crucifixions...and even then, it would have been true to the story.) It is one thing to do porn on the field. It is another to represent a classic story such as this; and we should never be so PC as to hide the truth. Should we NOT do a true Civil War show without representations of the battles and the causes? Are we not to do Jerry Bilik's "And They Walked In Darkness" (which actually would be a good vehicle for narration-get me into a rubber room! ) and ignore scenes of slavery in the early portions of the show? There are subjects and material that should not be on the field (i.e., Sounds of Porn Films...); but Spartacus and Samurai are not two of them. And insofar as standards, both these corps are of the highest, thank you very much!!!!!!

Olympics Opening Ceremony and Drum corps
prodigal bari replied to ssorrell's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Actually, there were marks on the staduim floor....they used very light colored dots to form a grid for the performers. BUT...the scale of the performance is so stunning and massive that it would be very easy to mess it up; and cause a pile-up that would have destroyed the entire production. The scatter run that hit into a HARD block (the perfection of which even the top corps could not match) was STUNNING. -
Give it up, buddy....you are not going to win this arguement! AND...btw; I have heard him since literally the beginning of DCI: and I have NOT changed my mind. Brandt is CLASSIC...one of the few things DCI has left to tie it to its history. You knew you were in a serious performance when you heard Brandt say 'On the starting line....' (Which I many times wish the phrase was still used...)

All the arguing aside; this may have been one of the best DCI shows I have ever seen. Passionate, diversified; and entertaining...and spell-binding. Just wish I could be there tomorrow! -

DCI found out the same thing I learned a long, long time ago from my grandmother.... "Don't mess with Granny!!!! I don't think their bottom hurt as much as mine, though... -
There is some SERIOUS point compression going on this year... ....which is actually GOOD! And reflective as to how good all the corps are; and how minute the differences in performance excellence are becoming!

There was actually a pic of that somewhere....very touching. (Doesn't BK's present director have previous ties to Troop?) -
