  1. UGH, 2006 prelims! Personally, old school that I am, I'd rather wear a shako and plume then sunglasses. But the Renegade look is very cool!
  2. Hey Tommytimp! "Better late than never!" I love these very memorable pics! Thx for sharing them!
  3. I have to admit that I didn't have my glasses on, (of which I avoid unless absolutely necessary but I'm getting to the point that I need them onmore often!) I thought that I saw the snare line play high open stroke rolls, perhaps triplet rolls going into a fast roll part, but I can't remember which tune it was in. Whatever it was, it was impressive. I believe that they repeated the part as well later on in the piece.
  4. I'm not much for commentaries, albeit, I'm a Babs Walters wanabe, (or the interviewer of your choice! ) I came "aboard" just before the Renegades' peformance which was great! I esp. liked the opening "statement" as well as the Jazz Police tune...(partail to the DCA mini-corps performance from last year!) I can't wait to hear the "Stone Ground Seven" drum solo, stick work and all, ('80 SCV). The Alumni performance was LOUD and you say all of them weren't there? I enjoyed the drumset work and how the toms were tuned...very nice! Tom Weiske, "79-'82 BD alumni did a grand job. Then BD, (cool uni's I might add!) Hard to hear the battery, but the two-height rolls and drum break parts were awesome! Very "chops" oriented...fast! Of course, it's always a pleasure to see your fellow comrades from the past, present and future! Getting a hug and smile from ScoJo makes my day! :P
  5. I think having cell phones at rehearsal should not be allowed, but what you do on your own time, however, whether it be talking on the phone or otherwise should be OK, as long as they're off when the lights go out. Having a phone is a matter of conveinence, but if the drum corps policy is to not have them, then so be it.
  6. I remember being at a party in '82 and a few people were "hanging", sitting in a circle and Tom Float started talking about a penguin that he brought back from Alaska to Atlanta. He said that he kept the penguin in a bathtub in order to keep it cold. I remember believing every frick'in word of it! He told me later that night that he made up the story...I was totally sober! He said it with such a straight face and was so serious! My middle name is "gullible!" After all, he was my instructor...I believed him when he said that we played "clean as P***!"
  7. The parties I went to after practice and/ or shows were not based around food and drink, (well, there was always something to drink!) :sshh:
  8. Hey Garry! Thx for the info on this awesome line! I have recently met Bruce, a real great guy who has such enthusiasm for the KAC alumni line as do all of the players. Bruce and another alum, Marty, partipate in Scottish drumming events. I was privy to play on his scottish-style snare drum, breifly, not too long ago. I have yet to meet Ellerby, but hopefully next time I'm at reheasal, I will do so. It's cool to see these cats come together and play the old style notes...lots of them! Of course, I have had the awesome opportunity play in a Float line and have such respect for him and Ralph, who went to bat for me at a certain time in my drum corps career. I like the Renegades banner in your signature!
  9. Hi MAV! What a beautiful picture of your daughter! It was a privledge to be able to spend some time with her "off the clock" last year with the Renegades. Eight years with SCV...wow! You should be proud!
  10. The talent levels are getting much younger these days...since "feeder corps", i.e. B corps are rare, the kids are forced to progress at a younger age. Note: Scott Johnson was 18 in '76.
  11. Loved those short shorts and those strap tan lines! I met Diane in '80 from the "Chrome Wall." I believe that she went on to Garfield Cadets, perhaps as their "lead stick" as they say, these days!
  12. I wish that I could take you up on that offer, but I totally understand the reasoning behind the snareline and it's strict ordinance for alumni only, as well as the rifle line, I understand. Otherwise, I'd be there in a heartbeat!! I need a reason to practice doing a stick toss again...NOT my forte, even though when I marched under Dale, he made us do it and I never dropped...thank God!
  13. I never marched in a marching band. I was introduced to DC at 13 and fell in love with the want to play that big 'ol sparkle green snare drum that I begged to beat on when I saw a local drum corps practice. Mom said that I could learn drums and I took band in jr. high but then drum corps was the only focus I had. I never learned to read well as I focused more on learning rudiments. I never regretted not marching in band, but I think it would have added to my fun in high school. All I cared about was getting home and practicing! This was in the late 70's.
  14. Well, I'm glad to say that I've already printed it out and it's waiting to be framed! It's cool that my snare drum is being used by one of the awesome players in the line and is in that pic! Of course, I'm a little partial to that player too!
  15. I love that photo of the "80 BD line! It appeared that they didn't eat enough...way skinny! But I like the muscle protrusion! They held their own, despite being behind a bit in the score. Nice chart and very musical.
  16. Wow! Awesome pic of '79 PR...so clear! Not only was the drumline very clean, but that guard was SO good! They were so clean and so-called "old-school," yet, they were so entertaining with their dance moves and such. Being a drummer, I tend to concentrate on drumline "stuff." But, this guard got won my eye!
  17. Sorry, nothing like the orignal....I hate remakes. The instrumentation is dry and empty to begin with There's less music, there's less players behind the vocalist, and the improv is weak. To bring a chart back in this manner is useless. I don't want to hear a piece from the past so watered down in order to attract the youth. Same with drum corps.
  18. Hey, Penny! You lucky lady, Valentine's Day came early for you! Tell your honey I said hello and that waiting for that video from DCA after the show! I hope to see you both out in CA sometime this year...I expect you to sign for me your first CD!
  19. Let band be band and drum corps be drum corps! Band anything should not be on a DCI website.
  20. I remember,(what would we do w/out that pre-curser), searching out the female snare drummer in the parking lot in '80 for "Cindy." I loved the uniforms and wanted to meet her and say "what a great line!" I told her that I was "trying out" for BD in '81...liked she really cared! I was so young and it was great to meet another female snare drummer. I also met Diane from Northstar who eventually became the center snare for Garfield!
  21. Scott Kubitz '04-'06 Renegades snare drummer, (marched '78 Kingsmen, '79 Phantom and '83 BD as well), is in the line.
