  1. I was convinced Phantom would do throw in something like that this season, going from black to white or something. Maaaaaaaaaan did I want to see them back in black
  2. You forgot about Star of Indiana coming back for 2007 :P
  3. OP: What exactly would you like to imply if in fact drum corps is marching band?
  4. I heard a band from my town march a show about pirates (not Pirates of the Carribbean), and they played music from Chrono Cross. They played their ballad from it (they performed the opening hymn and, if you've played the game, also the song when you fight Dario). It worked really well, I'd like to see someone like Phantom Regiment give it a try!
  5. I dunno about the shako thing. Something about seeing performs with them makes me think they're just BAMFs ready to go after it. I wonder if the kind of programming the Cavaliers have been doing will catch on with everyone else: really accentuating and designing around the visual program while the music program complements the visual more than vice versa. I mean, 5 championships in 7 years...
  6. Opener to Phantom 2003 gets the really musical crowd. I'd also say end of Cadets 2000 and the rock out of Cavies 2000.
  7. Make them do sprints and suicides combined with breathing stuff while telling them "Don't cheat this" :)
  8. There is a vid of the Semis DVD of Crown on Video Google. The sound and video aren't in sync, but if you just want to hear it, then minimize does the trick :)
  9. In fact, this is the only way I've seen block rotations performed: they compress and decompress. The Cavaliers rotate tons of blocks like this.
  10. I forgot about that one. Probably 'cause I thought I was dying during first runthrough.
  11. Whoa whoa, gotta add Star 1993, a show no one has even come close to design wise. Cadets 2005 maybe, but that program was pretty accessible compared to this. Oh yeah, capped off a Jim Ott 4-peat.
  12. It has to be this season on Finals Week right before we got into Madison, the rehearsal day we had in the RCA Dome in Indy, we were rocking all day. Bob Medworth left before our runthrough that night and came back the next day asking the corps "Someone told me you were a 93 last night, is that true?"
  13. It is November 1993 in Bloomington, Indiana, and instead of leaving the football field forever, Star is getting ready for their first camp for the 1994 competitive season! Where does the program go after turning drum corps on its head with the Medea show? More of the same but with more accessible music? Push the envelope even more musicallly and visually? Maybe take a step back and go more standard? What composers and genres would they explore?
  14. I thought they were those things you see at airports that make the lines at the ticket counters. Maybe a modified version.
  15. Maaaaaaan, (insert least favorite corps here) don't play and move at all! Question: Simultaneous visual and musical demands are on the brass sheet, right?
  16. If you do the math and move Crown's percussion score to a tie for 8th, Crown would be in 7th (+0.6).
  17. My name is Doyle Gammill, music director from Lubbock. BE CURRFUL! Now, mrimbas, ya gotta sell them trippets. Okay, now, y'all play so loud, ya got... yall got some TALL tubas, you look like y'all a college band! Whoever has this PLEASE PM me!!! The staff played this for us at Spring Training this year and we hyped it all season!
  18. Difficulty definitely matters when you're trying to take the next step competitively. Once you get into Box 5, everyone's so clean that the only thing that separates the top few corps is the difficulty of the book. So pretty much a show of half notes and whole notes won't win a ring. While rare, penalties will stem mostly from missing a gate time or the show being too long. Other things are logistical things like warming up somewhere you're not supposed to, and this year they threatened penalties for practicing/hacking in the parking lot after shows.
  19. That's how I marched this summer too! Crown did age out only 6 brass players this year, but definitely don't let that stop you from auditioning. You never know how many vets can't put the money together or decide to go "chase rings" (hopefully very few of those people because it's foolish)
  20. Vets are going to be at the camp anyway, and people can get significantly better and move up from 3rd to 2nd or 2nd to 1st. If there are soloists they must decide who those people are too. If a vet comes to the first camp unprepared, they might not be the right person to help the corps take the next step. But usually, a vet will have his spot back granted he does the same things he's been doing. There are definitely corps that cut vets and/or put them in alternate spots.
  21. Equal contribution in the section is probably the best thing that can help. Also, don't force anything, tension is the root of all evil.
  22. Star - When you wish upon a star (my time machine is in beta testing right now :P) What I would kill to be able to see this corps live
  23. I have an mp3 of this show, love the opener to death. Hopefully someone can YouTube or Video Google a vid of this show.
