  1. Madison is one of the few corps I haven't seen. I'm looking forward to seeing them.
  2. It's an individual issue. Some new to drum corps Never knew a Cadet corps with George. Some people will try to remember only the things based on personal experiences. ( good and /or bad) But, let's face it George was a major game changer in drum corps.. He will have his day in court. There will never be a total group think on this issue. Who knows, I may erase this statement and write something different. Duality of human nature. Stevenson writes about the duality of human nature – the idea that every single human being has good and evil within them.
  3. Although this years Blue Devils show is not as strong as 17 and 18's offerings Blue Devils do use some of the same elements year after. I just made list of the things You'll find in a BD show but, I'll keep it for any Marching band I may write for in the future.
  4. I'm sorry I had to stop playing, I'm on tour with a drumcorps . We stayed at so many cellphone dead zones I couldn't get my prediction out in time.
  5. Bluecoats are the truth. Can't wait for the upgrades Devils are better than I thought. I thought Vanguard would win the whole thing last night. I don't know if so few applaud points help them or hurt them. Crown and Boston are going to be in a dog fight til the end. Cavies had the misfortune of going on between Boston and Santa Clara Cadets have a top 3 percussion section and a bottom 3 (out of 12) brass section. Cadets need more impact points in their show, specifically after the drum break in Dance 1 (from the Estancia Orchestral Suite) Blue Stars- I didn't like them as much upon 2nd viewing. I'm not saying they aren't good (they are) The show didn't leave an impression on me beyond the theme. Phantom needs to take all that great energy they create at the beginning of their show and carry it through to the end. The middle of the show loses a little something but great improvement Phantom.
  6. Sorry about last night. I tried to (Periscope) but I was in a cellphone dead zone there. I also tried to use my buddy Irving as a HOTSPOT but to no avail.

  8. Boston was great. The guard does not dominate the show. They do visually interpret the hell out of the show. Wow!
  9. Phantom builds a tension at the beginning of their show and hits you with that first impact. They never let you go after that. Impact point after impact point. I enjoyed this show very much. The guard has to start owning their parts they have a lot of great material to work with. Brass was a little spotty but, they know how to hit those big moments.
  10. When I take new people to a drum corps show: I explain basically what drum corps is and why I love it. We sit watch and applaud. I take them to dinner and listen to what they got out of the experience. And, I learn.
  11. Blue Devils have been featuring their guard for years and they have 19 championships.
  12. My Prediction ( just for fun) 1.Santa Clara Vanguard-80.20 2.Blue Devils-79.00 3.Cavaliers-77.30 4.Blue Knights-74.10 5.Mandarins-72.85 6.Academy-69.70 7.Troopers-64.8 8.Pacific Crest-63.55 9.Genesis-59.75
  13. The Cavaliers need to get their Visual/GE staff to lobby the judges harder. Cavaliers have the goods this year and should be right in the mix.

  16. If you have not been to Tavern on the South, you got to go.
  17. I travel solo too. ( If i'm not working with a drum corps) I like to get to Indy on: Monday or Tuesday so I can do all my non drum corps things.( Museums, State Fair, shop, Explore) Wednesday, I always eat at the food trucks. watch drum battle and sound sports competitions. Thursday, I get to the stadium a little early, buy my souvies while supplies are full. Then Drum corps till done at night. Friday, Lunch with friends, A good long walk before I sit on my azz all day watching drum corps. Saturday, Meals with family and friends workout( I try to workout every day because I eat like a pig) Then drum corps. Afterwards, meet with friends and family at a bar and b!tch about the scores.
  18. I've been to every DCI in Indy a few BOA's and a couple of NCAA events. The best dining experiences I have had: Fogo de Chao 317-638-4000, 117 East Washington Street- Brazilian BBQ, The side orders and cheeses in the buffet are incredible. The red meat eaters in our group said the meats are Awesome! Shapiro's Delicatessen- 808 S Meridian St, Indianapolis, IN 46225 Great food low prices across from corps bus parking lot Tavern on South 317-602-3115, 423 West South Street- I've eaten here about 10 times. Salmon, Chilean sea bass, filet mignon, etc... All Excellent! Fresh in house made deserts! (My first meal in Indy will probably be there!) St Elmo's Steak House, Weber Grill, Ruth Chris Steak House, Morton's Steak House- I've Been to all four more than twice. You probably can't go wrong here. Palomino 317-974-0400, 49 West Maryland Street and Mo's A Place for Steaks 317-624-0720, 47 South Pennsylvania Street- Just as good as the above but, Better side dishes in my opinion. Oceanaire Seafood Room, 317-955-2277, 39 South Meridian Street- I've never had a bad or average meal here! The Food Trucks on W. Georgia St. ( Mon-Fri)- Everything I bought at the trucks were reasonably priced and delicious! I had Cajun jambalaya, BBQ chicken and tons of other stuff. Turkey Legs,Corn on the Cob and Fresh Lemon Aid at the State Fair! Yum, Yum and Yum! It's 72 degrees in the Stadium you may need a jacket or hoodie. Indy has very good museums Take a stroll on the river-walk and visit the zoo Do some non drum corps things between shows
