  1. Congratulations Vanguard Cadets! Congratulations to all the Open Class corps. What an exciting year! Good luck to all of you in the World Class Prelims and to those of you who make it to World Class Semis.
  2. Welcome back Columbians. I've got a Columbians button from 1973. One of my favorite corps from that era. Nice to see you on the field again.
  3. Have always enjoyed Open Class/Div.2-3 and these forums. I've been so wrapped up in Oregon's move to WC that completely overlooked this forum until today. Please forgive me, it won't happen again.
  4. Why is there nothing about this on the official DCI WEB site?
  5. Ha! We did Burt Bacharach in 1973. I loved it! Thanks for the review.
  6. I actually thought it was ridiculous to have open class quarter, semi and finals competitions in the first place. There weren't a lot of placement changes after quarters anyway.
  7. 5K corps members? There would be no one left to perform! Maybe half of that, including staff.
  8. First time at Indy for me. Sat in section 337, row 1 for the quarterfinals. Couldn't hear anything but a dull roar. Seemed like no sound actually made it directly to that point in the stadium . Really appalling actually. We eventually moved down to 143 where we got the full effect of the direct sound from the corps and the reverb from the ceiling. Much improved over section 337, except for the people in the stands (read below). For semis we sat in section 638, row 11. The sound was almost PERFECT! We were astonished. Every section could be heard clearly and there was barely any reverb. The view from up there was great too, except for the tall woman in front of us who leaned forward and obscured my view for most of the top 6. OFF TOPIC WARNING! I'd like to add that I'm really disappointed in the etiquette of some of the people in the stands. Talking continuously during performances, texting, getting up and down to pass things to people in other rows, continually kicking the backs of seats, loud wrappers and crunching nachos. One young kid sitting between her parents a few seats over from us had her feet over the seatback and was kicking the folding seat continuously for an hour. I made eye contact with her parents and they did nothing to stop the kicking. Thanks for ruining the show for me "fans". As much as I love this activity, I doubt I'm make the effort or incur the expense to fly from the West Coast to watch the World Championships in Indy again.
  9. Congratulations Oregon Crusaders! Wonderful show this year. My favorite for 2010 from either division. I'm not kidding. How do you guys do it? Quality drum corps is alive and well in the NW (At least in Oregon).
  10. Really. And honestly, this is my daughters 7th year marching and she says she is having her best year ever. Perhaps we put too much value on winning, not enough on the fun experiance it can be.
  11. For a preview, check out the Oregon Crusaders site. I LOVE THIS SHOW. I think I like it more than most of the WC shows this year. And no, my kid doesn't march with them. It's just good drum corps. http://oregoncrusaders.org/
  12. Troopers music was somewhat disappointing to me. Grover's Corners, from SCV 1984/85 was beautiful and maybe the only piece I liked, but their show lacks from direction and musical content. Kids are doing a great job and the performance levels are good. They have a fantastic trumpet section! Nice job guys! It's not the performance of the corps, what is hurting them is the design of the show. The visual is good at the onset, but after the opening hit there is not much that grabs me. There is one section toward the end of their show where they begin to jam and I was loving it, then all that came to an end and the show just sort of ended. Design is a killer. Might be because of the two 09 Blue Devils members who decided to march with Troopers this year. BTW, one isn't a "guy".
  13. Yeah, I just watched BD's show and the music was a mess and didn't match the show at all. I signed out and logged back in, didn't help. Even tried another computer. Still a mess. What's that......that was how the show was intended......really? Okay, never mind.
  14. Best thread ever. Some of the most intelligent posts I've ever read on DCP. I have a new perspective on modern drum corps fans. Thanks everyone. March on.
  15. This was my favorite show at the beginning of the season. The opener was full of old school goodness. Hopkins, we got it. Then you had to add the vocals and insult our intelligence. For me, this addition ruined it. As annoying as a cell phone ringing during the show. Please cut it. Please!
  16. I agree 100%. For me, this is the WORST drum corps show ever. And I've been at this since DCI was founded. Honestly, if it wasn't for Blue Coats and the Cadets, I'd cancel my trip to Indy. Correction, just Bluecoats. The voice added to the Cadets show ruined it for me. Sigh.
  17. Wow. It's amazing to me that few, if any, WC fans would ever consider going to the OC finals. Even when they are right there in the same facility. I've been a fan of the OC (Div. 2-3) since my daughter marched 04-06. She's moved up to WC (and has a ring for it ) but we still support the OC corps and attend OC competitions. Come on people, how much of a drum corps fan are you if you're only interested in the G7? Without support, these great OC corps are going to disappear and all that will be left is the G7. Tom, I'll be there!
