At what point and time did we lose Drum Corps
Halcyon122 replied to Coop's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Isn't that sort of how the Cavaliers did it this year? I remember them saying that they were doing Billy Joel, but I never saw a list of the actual pieces until the season started... -

The "Next Big Thing" Artistically...
Halcyon122 replied to bawker's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I think it would be interesting to see BK take all of their body movement, dance, acrobatics, etc, and do a whole show that way. That could be the next step in visual design, maybe something suited to stage a la Blast? -
Obviously you can see it. It's not like he said that the soloist is invisible. He's just saying that it's great staging so that he "seems" to appear and disappear without the distraction of walkig out of the form and back in while stuff happens around him...

Something new about Phantom Regiment..
Halcyon122 replied to niteblaze102's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
It's OK, but the all-white unis look a lot better with the black sash, gloves, gauntlets, and drop, a la 03-05... -
Isn't Mitch Rogers with the Bluecoats also a Cavalier?

Has any corps ever done...

I'm pretty sure the Blue Knights are doing Symphony No. 10 and Piano Concerto No. 1 this year... -
Well, I don't have a stopwatch handy, but there are several problems with this. Where you have them walking to the end of the opener and say that it's very clow, they're actually marching at a pretty good clip some great drill. So that's at least 14 seconds more of playing while moving quickly. Also, when the people are rolling, you say that everyone playing is doing hlaftime, everybody is playing, just some sections of three are at half time and some, at full, and they sort of alternate through the section. I'm not gonna go through the entire thing, but if there are problems like this just in the opener, then I seriously doubt the credibility of ANY of your analyses...

Who will win S.A. morning show?
Halcyon122 replied to brassdrumguard's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
As much as I'd love to see the Colts win, I think BK is still a bit out ahead. But not by too much for Colts to catch up by finals... -
I'd be interested to see how this would come out for some of the other top corps. For example, I just watched the Bluecoats right after watching the Cavaliers on EnCorps video, and at least to me, the Bluecoats seemed to have their horns down just as much as the Cavaliers. I could really care less if you think the Cavaliers show is easy b/c of time with the horns down, but at least make sure to check everybody before singling out the Cavaliers. P.S. Wouldn't it be more accurate to do it with the EnCorps High Cam then the streams Multi-Cam? (Just a thought...)

A quick peek at the DCI Southeastern recaps

The dirt may make it hard to see what they are trying to do, so the judge can't figure out exactly what is going on... -
What I Like About You (Corps)
Halcyon122 replied to CloudFuel's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Blue Knights: I love the fact that you are willing to be different, and have formed, IMO, the strongest and most unique identity in DCI. From your signature marching style, complete with knee pops, your dark, rich, sound, your musical selections, your body movement and dance, down to cool little things like the high mark time in every show and the little thing the drumline does at the end of the show, there's no other corps quiter like you, and I'm glad you keep being yourself, despite how "boring" others may say you are... -
The Cavaliers encore at ATL

I didn't mean to quote you originally, I was trying to quote the other guy. Sorry... -
The Cavaliers encore at ATL
Halcyon122 replied to darklordsmiley's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I've only seen them live twice, at Allentown this year and last, but both years they just played the opener and closer, so I'm 99.9% that Pressure isn't going anywhere just because they didn't play it at the encore... -
Atlanta review (morning and evening)
Halcyon122 replied to PhantomR's topic in DCI (All) Corps Show & Event Reviews
I agree with you on both Phantom and Crown. They are performing at an extremely high level, and I can see why a lot of people love them this year, but I'm just not really into either show. Phantom is just sorta blah for me, and while I agree that Crown has a great hornline, the only piece they play that I can really get into is The Red Pony, and even that isn't the greatest arrangement. Great review! ^OO^ -

Loves them or Loves them not - Part I
Halcyon122 replied to NeutralNovice's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I can't see HATING any corps, but I can easily be indifferent to Phantom, it's just a matter of taste... -
You know, of all things to complain about with the Cadets narration, I never thought someone would try to find a liberal pro-choice agenda in it...
