  1. Due to an Injury, the Troopers 2010 Horn line has 1 Trumpet Opening to be filled immediately. This is your chance to march an amazing drum corps for just Pennies! Please contact: Kyle Thompson, Brass Caption-Head @ troopersbrass@yahoo.com for more information. Don't wait this will go quick!
  2. Every corps uses straight leg if you only look at the downbeats, its the "and" counts where the definition of the leg changes. As for straight leg jazz running, if you are taught it right, it is very comfortable. If you are taught it wrong, or march it wrong it can be painful. We were never encouraged at devils to try to stop in minus 1 at the end of a phrase if we were jazz running, trying to do stuff like that is what causes injury.
  3. probably one of the best pieces of advice on here. Early writters, including myself have gotten stuck writting because the next set isnt a "pretty picture." There is nothing wrong with functional transition sets to help set up different ideas.
  4. a buddy of mine also said the drop sashes where added to "make them look fast." Helps show that they are moving at high velocities which sometimes the dark uniform hides against the green field. Thats what i heard about them. I dig em.
  5. haha not even worth taking time to respond to that with anything of substance. Wish you the best if you are marching this upcoming season.
  6. Yah the out of step thing was deffinetly intentional, due to the fact that we had direction changes every three counts going into the block, thus every other line was on the opposite foot. Just how the math worked out. As for not deserving the championship, you may think that is the case, but my ring says differently. Happy halloween.
  7. Just when you thought it couldnt get any steeper, it does...ahh good times
  8. Hey guys maybe you can help me out, maybe the appropriate thread to do this on as well haha Im looking for the Downey arrangement of "When A Man loves a Woman" for marching band that was available from J.W Pepper, but is now out of print. Any help? See it in any music stores collecting dust? Thanks! Kyle
  9. I hardly said anything about "radical predictions." I think you are overreacting. I just thought it was funny that people including yourself are knocking a show that is still in its development and well over a month from being debuted. Cart before the horse...
  10. Oh man you are so lucky to have seen the show already! I am jealous...
  11. Art is constantly evolving and constantly evoking controversy. I appreciate counterpoint and what it did for diatonic music, but there is no way I would want to listen to it in my car. I appreciate minimalist art, but wouldnt want to hang it on the walls in my house. I like the 4 chart style shows that are performed amazingly well. Quality and execution in any activity are undeniable. But, if you can take the same quality and execution and tell me a story within it, im sold.
  12. Very excited for this show, obviously. A couple of my friends say they enjoy the music way more than 06 or 07. Gona be a great summer for sure.
  13. Will i miss performing? Yes. Will i miss rehearsing? No.
  14. I know of Mike Quillen, BD soprano 79-80, and 82. 3 rings. Taught me at OC and i marched with his daughter. I got to stand next to him during the alumni concert at stanford. What a wonderful experience to play next to him wearing blue. I have so much respect for him, I will never forget how excited i was to stand next to him and wail. Kyle
  15. Its that magic formula we bought from the leprechaun under the bridge. Thats what gave us the edge...without that we were nothing... k
  16. I think that you are very misguided in your statement. It could be from personal experience, but from my side of things and after working with MANY of the tops bands in the area and a lot of the top talents in the area, I have yet to hear these other instructors put down or try to discredit other instructors. The difficultly, as what was stated earlier, is that many of the music educators in the area aren't encouraging their students to get the corps experience. Just filling the spots in the corps this summer was a mighty task. I think they did a phenominal job with such a young corps. It dosen't help that most high schools, including colleges, in the area (including mine) don't get out untill june. It is with my personal opinion that the staff for cascades is top notch. Most noted? No. But there is no doubt in my mind that there isn't one person on last year's staff that wasn't qualified to teach. With that I believe that the cascades are forming their staff as we speak. Why don't you send in your resume and offer your, i would assume (no sarcasm intended) strong teaching abilities to an activity that you are obviously very passionate about. Its easy to sit back and criticise, those that truely want to make a difference dont hessitate to get their hands in the dough. (so to speak) Kyle *edited for typos
  17. In all the speculation ive read, there was one (1) individual who nailed it on the head...
  18. How would your member jacket not mean anything? Common now...
  19. WOW, i am the original writter of this topic, talk about this thread comming back from the dead. I was a sophmore in highschool at the time and now I am a sophmore in college. A lot has taken place, it takes me way back to my naive trumpet playin days!
  20. He hit just about everything on the head.
  21. Maybe...maybe not... soon all shall see
