  1. Definitely sensing a lot of hostility this amazing group of musicians and, if I may be so bold, ATHLETES. I believe this hostility may stem from your own fear of inadequacies and, furthermore, jealousy towards Mr. Nick Cannon and his amazing musicianship. lulz, but why you mad though?!
  2. I think everyone is guilty of having a bias for this corps or that. Personally, I want to punch someone in the face every time I see SCV in 6th/7th place and BD celebrating another championship. And then, of course, I watch the videos and part of my has to honestly agree with the judges on this or that. I have never honestly see the judges make a decision that make me say "wtf?!"
  3. It still couldn't be as bad as those kids that played pokemon, yugioh or magic (the gathering). I'm not sure what it was about trading cards and the audience it attracts, but they always smelled like urine... lul @ bawker for removing my last post. Well played sir, well played...
  4. I was away for quite a while, it's good to see that this hasn't died!
  5. A great show indeed, but Magic of Orlando 2003 has my vote for best 11th place show.
  6. I am stuck traveling a lot for work so I don't get the opportunity to read the news about my favorite corps (or any corps for that matter). However, I was under the impression that Mr. Fiedler was taking over for Mr. Pearson. I just checked the website and I didn't see it mentioned anywhere that this was the case so I'll assume I misunderstood something I read somewhere and took it to be fact. If anyone has any info on the situation with SCV's Corps Director I know I would certainly like to know as well.
  7. Considering that this is the off season, this is one of the better threads! Thanks to you, the OP, for creating it!
  8. I still own the pair of Brooks running shoes that I used in 04 and 05. They saw me through some particularly tough times and while they are worn out beyond repair I still attempt to wear them daily. I would recommend them to anyone that is looking for some reliable shoes for a drum corps season. They are a little price, IMO, but not nearly as bad as Air Force 1's or Jordan's or whatever is popular these days. IIRC I paid about $90 for them in the spring of 04. However I'm sure that with the economy in the condition it's in today, they've raised their prices considerably.
  9. IN 2004 one of the Blue Devils Contras (don't remember his name) played the carnival of venice. The last variation will certainly get you gold, if nothing else! You can find quite a bit of music on Hickeys.com.
  10. +1 for making me laugh! Plum, Kitchen, Pipe!
  11. Cadets marched 84 horns sometime in the mid to late 80s (I want to say 86 but I haven't touched my Legacy Coll. in a while). That was an insane hornline and they really didn't sacrifice any talent.
  12. As someone that saw them once in 07 and once in 08 I would highly recommend spending your money on a ticket.
  13. Any word whether they'll be dropping the price for returning members? or just lower the price altogether? As a poor college student I work 40+ hours a week at a security job and have over 14 credit hours this past semester. Having extra money lying around is a rarity and I can't justify spending $100 on a subscription. I also found out that if you split the cost of the membership with someone, it only works if you both watch the webcasts on the same computer. I would like to see the price come down to about $75, then I'd bite...
  14. I was never a drumline member but in 2005 the corps I marched used Ludwig percussion and had all sorts of issues. 3-ply marching bass drum hoops? Sounds like poor construction to me. Our drumline made up a slogan for the low quality drums, "Ludwig: The Worst Reason to Play Drums..." (an obvious play on the Pearl Slogan).
  15. I still don't understand why they don't show more shows than those 6... I personally don't mind paying whatever the cost but if I'm going to drive 40 miles why not make the show a nice solid 2 1/2 hours or so?
  16. Yes, I almost feel obligated to go and support the activity in anyway possible because I have gotten so much out of it, I'd feel guilty not to give back. Furthermore, my life outside of drum corps (School, Work, Friends, Etc.) is a polar extreme to the life spent in drum corps it's nice to mix it up a bit. For events like this I like to bring a friend (or two) that have never really been to a drum corps performance, because it's a great introduction for those ignorant to the activity. If they show general interest in it, then it's usually pretty easy to convince them to go see a real show during the summer and thus, I have brought another non-DCI person into the realm of drum corps and usually they become a lifetime fan. If they don't show much interest and think it's kind of boring or not really something for them, no harm, no foul, we drove 20 miles and payed half the price it would have cost to see a live performance. I have to say, of all the people I have introduced to the activity I have had a handful really take to it right away and I've had some that were only semi-interested, but I have NEVER had someone flat out say, "that sucked, why would anyone watch/listen to this?". I think for all of the people that will be going to see the countdown everyone should try and take someone new that has never seen DCI. You obviously feel strongly enough for the activity to be on a forum devoted solely to discussing it so why not share that with another person? Maybe they'll love corps even more than you and I once introduced?
  17. Aw, you know we all love you! How about a "Boo is awesome because..." Article?
  18. I'm in college and if I had to, I'd drop what I've got going on now and serve. Hopefully, I'd be able to come back after however many years served and be able to pick up where I left off with my education (and then the Gov. can pay for it!).
