  1. I loved their version of Creep from last season. That said, their entire 2010 production and Caravan (2005?) REALLY stand out to me.
  2. My two favorite corps! Why do I hear 'My Favorite Things' in my head right now? ;-)
  3. I've got to say that, in my humble opinion, 2010 was a fabulous year for both corps (i.e. Bluecoats and Blue Stars).
  4. When I think of triple tonguing, I always think of 72 and 73 St. Andrews Bridgemen ... just before the closer. No one did that stuff back then.
  5. The opening segment of Cavies 76 Russian Sailors Dance has always been a favorite of mine.
  6. Hi HH, I couldn't agree with you more. This is only my personal opinion, but I believe The Cadets have obscured many excellent corps with too much focus on the 'entertainers'.
  7. Paul, I LOVE that story and would have loved to see Prelims that day. My only recollections of the corps that year was seeing you from back field at a show in Toronto and the one you spoke about in North Tonawanda. When I saw that young group of guys in Toronto, I knew I had to be part of that corps! Unfortunately, I only found out recently the REAL reason my corps (i.e. Seneca Princemen) didn't go to Ithaca that year. We rented buses from Grey Coach and there was a fear that they would be on strike and we'd be left 'deserted'. We came home and ended up playing an exhibition for an RCA show in Guelph the same night as Finals. Too bad. We might have won Class A that year. My first year with the Cavaliers was 77. Like 74, we were 'behind the proverbial eight ball' going in to Prelims. We had major problems with the show and with personnel that season. We had even pulled out of competition for 1 1/2 weeks mid season and 'the word on the street' was we had folded. Going in to our last contest before DCI, there were 17 corps who had broken 80. We played one HELL of a good show at Prelims in Boulder and came out of it with an 85. Unfortunately, we 'let down' a little at Finals, but at least we were in. Since leaving the corps, I've found out a lot about its great history from guys who marched before me. I look at the current corps and am SO proud to say I am a Cavalier. Jeff
  8. Hi Bruno. I was with the Seneca Princemen from 72 through 75 and we competed against General Butler fairly often. We housed some of their guys at our home show in 73 and they returned the favour. You're right. They were a solid corps. I have great memories of them, Squires, Black Knights, Gauchos, Mark Twain, Cambria Cadets ... WAY too many to mention. Good times! Jeff
  9. I just read this to my wife, who is an architect, and her response was 'my goodness'! I couldn't see who the poster was until I scrolled left. Happy New Year Mike!
  10. Oh no, not again! Sorry, I thought this thread was about drum corps 'voice overs' not keyboard doubling?
  11. How about the Southern Tier Grenadiers? They were a good solid corps. As for the NYC area, in the late 60's/early 70's there were numerous church based corps. Long Island had several too (e.g. St. Ignatius). I'm sure if I thought about it, I'd be able to come up with quite a few others. Were Mark Twain Cadets from NY State?
  12. Thanks for writing back Rob. After all this time, I still think there was a big difference between the sound of most eastern corps and those located in the mid-west or west coast. I always found the east coast sound a little more edge to it. Jeff
  13. Thanks for explaining the breakdown. You did a MUCH better job than the DCAcorps.org site! Jeff
  14. When I saw it in Kalamazoo, I remember thinking to myself 'This is Boston! I don't want subtle. I want to have my face peeled off'!
  15. You're right about the timing. I looked it up on corpsreps after I posted. They came to DCI Canada several years running and I guess I thought these two shows were one after the other. Oh well ... Thanks for the correction.
  16. All this talk about Crown, dark and RVW make me think Of Symphonies 6 or 7. No. 7 (i.e. Sinfonia Antarctica) would be WAY too bleak, even for them. How about the Fantasia on a Theme of Thomas Tallis for the horns?
  17. No. That was either the year before of the year after and I REALLY didn't like that show either. I remember watching is and going 'huh'? I did the same the same thing with Glassmen in 2008 ... and a lot of other years too, for that matter.
  18. Thanks for posting this Mike. Great sounds for a Sunday morning!
  19. There's a lot of great listening on this list. Thanks for posting these!
  20. I loved what Bucs did with the Verdi Requiem in 73 and their whole show in 74. Cru's show in 75 was a blast. Being a 'proud Canadian', I've GOT to go with Dips finish in 73!
  21. That might have been 74. They were good that year. No one has mentioned the Keystone Regiment yet. I'm glad to see Squires, Belvedears (sp?), Southern Tier, Black Watch, Marquis and the Charioteers on this list though.
  22. That was a really good year for the corps. From what I remember, brass was the corps strength.
